When you come to TalkBass, where do you start?

I've been on TB for a year and a half now. When I come to this site, I typically look at the trending topics and the classifieds. I sometimes look at the 'New Posts' tab, but it's kind of similar to the trending subjects on the main page. It's weird, I never seem to see the newly started threads/subjects.

When you come to TB, where do you typically start? Do you have a routine that you follow each day? Or are you like me and just kind of scattershot?

I get out of bed, make my bed, make some coffee and head to the PC. Craigslist, Yahoomail, TalkBass.

With TalkBass, I usually start with any "Alerts". Then I go to Threads and New Posts. Then I make some comments/posts. Then I go to Classifieds. Parts, WTB and Basses for sale.

What a wasted life!

i almost always start with "recent posts" --- it seems like a good mix of everything (topics) and i feel both lazy and satisfied with the routine.

Pedals Classifieds -> Pedals Forum -> Pedals Classifieds. I wouldn't recommend it! $$$

I have OT, Band Management, Bass Humour and Miscellaneous on my forum watch-list, so they're where I almost always find myself.
I also occasionally wander over to the DB side, just to see if they've woken up yet...but that's generally a disappointment.

Ok. Maybe that’s what I’m missing. I don’t have a watch list setup. I’ll take a look at that.

Just the same as I did when we had newspapers- right straight for the funnies. After that, I scan the titles for something that might be of interest to me.

I zero in on threads where the OP asks for a list of the greatest R & B or Studio Bassists of all time. And then, other Forum members, without actually reading the OP, proceed to list their favorite random Metal, Funk, or Prog Rock players. (Someone will then ask why John Entwistle wasn’t mentioned, even though he was, at least three or four times.)

Full disclosure, I’m sure I’ve gone off the rails myself.

(I’ll follow up with Tiran Porter or Craig MacGregor; maybe Lee Dorman, if I’m in the mood.)

Depending on my mood I type either "best bass for metal" or "muskrat love" into search.

I start with Alerts then work across the first three headings of the home page: Active Today, Latest Posts (Bass Guitar), and Latest Posts (Double Bass). I'll respond in whatever threads I get pulled into from these feeds.

After that I check two forums: Amps and Cabs [BG] and Live Sound [BG].

Towards the end of the day I check the most recent listings in two classified sections: For Sale: Amps, Preamps, and Cabs, and For Sale: Double Basses. I occasionally check For Sale: Bass Guitars and For Sale: Effects and Pedals but it is very rare.

I don't generally go looking for trouble anywhere else . The search feature is your friend, but be carefully about waking zombies. Sometimes it's okay, but it's inconsiderate to do it without a good reason .
