Where can I get a medium scale bass?

Medium Scale is very cool to play - I think it is my favorite, actually. I have had several over the years, currently a MIJ Squier P from the 80's and a Aria Pro II. There is also a company that makes conversion necks to convert your Fender bass to 32".

I think that Rondo Music may still sell some SXs that are Medium scale. The overall best places to find them are on the Japanese music store site as MS was (is) quite popular there. The prices may be higher than your budget, though.

My big problem with Medium scale is the dearth of strings available. There just aren't a lot of medium scale strings on the market, and you can't just use long scale and cut them - they will never be pulled to the proper tension and will sound flubby. My favorites - TI Flats and Sunbeam rounds are not available in 32".

You can get TI Flats in 32" scale at JustStrings. See the below link. I also second the ARIA Pro II CSB basses, excellent quality and sound for a medium scale. And you can get them for close to Squier cost if you really look.
Guitar Center Used website is a good source, they don't know what they have in them. They are more expensive on the Japanese music store websites, plus the shipping is a lot more.

Not sure, was a vague recollection that they might - are the S.D. Curlee's medium scale? Anyway, if it's not them, it's someone else, will try to remember.

Long scale strings (with a 37-ish inch winding length) will often wrap around a standard-sized tuning post without much fuss, which expands the options. TI and Sunbeams both make medium scale strings, but they call them short scale. However, the winding length is 34", which fits most medium scale basses.
