where did your band name come from?

When my band N@MELESS got a rehearsal space in a rehearsal complex [called Hush] in Seattle [98] we didn't have a name on our door and all the other bands kept asking at the frond desk who the hell we were so I wrote NAMELESS on our door as a joke................ no one got he joke and everyone stated calling us NAMELESS and we all thought well what the hell. I think it was our Keyboard/guitarist/singer [our all powerful front woman] that got the idea of changing the A for a @.

I came up with That Band You Hate! because it negates any bad reviews to humor: That Band You Hate! sucks:D I hate That Band You Hate!:D I can't stand That Band You Hate!:D

Purple Disease came from my sister as a name that sounded cool and at the time we couldn't think of anything better.

Mudcat has existed for over 20 years and I am one of many that play with him.

The only band name that I've been involved that I really liked was "DeadFrog".
It came to me when I went to the theater and watched Lethal Weapon 4 when Leo Gets was talking about his best friend "froggy" and how he jumped out of the basket while Leo was riding his bike and ran him over. Hence a DeadFrog. Two of my friends (one was the lead guitarist) busted out laughing while the entire theater was dead quite and began starring at us.

One of the first bands I was in back in the 80's,was called "Rival".We got that from a brand of electric can-opener we seen at a retail store.

The main band that I play in now is called "The Powerhouse Band".Believe it or not,we took that name from a can of oven cleaner at the local Dollar General store.

The metal band I play in on the side is called "Mystery Box".Oh well,at least that one doesn't have anything to do with a kitchen appliance.

there's actually a real sort of meaning behind our band name, "My Last Flight" Our singer started the band as a solo project about two years ago after spending 2 years in various mental hospitals due to his extreme depression, where they had to tie him down as he desperately tried to kill himself.

However, he emerged a functioning member of society (although a medicated one) and realized that his experience in the hospital gave him a new lease on life and that those experiences could be shared to try to help the millions of teens around the world who deal with depression and suicide everyday. "My Last Flight" is in reference to him losing his first chance at life to depression but being given a second, and last, chance to help people.

when he made the project a full band and told me about the name (myself having gone through a serious bout with depression and being unmedicated by choice and bi-polar) I was 100% behind the name.

when people ask though and we don't want to tell the real story we just go "i dunno.. sounds cool i guess" :hyper:

My bands name is Our Fold.

What happened was, our singer had this house and his girlfriend of the time went away for a month or 2... this is right when we first started... So it was just a 2 month long party then... one night, Our singer said he was ringin this lad he's known for years to come down, another mate was a bit paranoid, off his face like... and said "No, i don't want anyone here who's not in Our Fold..."

Now then...

People who live in the near by town call us folk from Westhoughton/Howfen "Cow y'ed's"
Thats how they say it because it's a ye olde thing... Anyway, The old story is, A farmer put a new fence round his land and a cow got it's head stuck in it. The fence cost more than the cow, so he cut the cows head off... So thats why we are "Cow Y'ed's"

Now a Fold is where cattle (Cows) are kept... So it's like Westhoughton is Our Fold...

2 meanings :D

Our name came from the lead guitarist asking a 5 year old girl what she thought would be a good band name and she told him.

I'd like to change it because it's a stupid name for a band with no girls and very 80s sounding. Probably not going to happen because he and the other guitarist decided on that before I came into the fold and the locals are starting to recognize it.

Oh well, it's just a name. I'll have it changed when I make my first million.

My previous band, which sadly doesn't exist anymore (all four members going to different colleges will do that), got our name "Archimedes" from the Sword in the Stone movie, not the Greek mathmetician as most people thought.

My current band "The Procrastinators" is pretty self-explanatory, and the self-depracation can work in our favor sometimes. Our business cards say "need a band? It's never too late", so we often get booked at the last possible minute. People are always expecting some crappy cover band, but they are usually very pleasantly surprised :)

Back when my band was a six piece (two guitars, bass, drums, vocals, keyboards), we actually had a band re-naming brainstorming session at our rehearsal where we just wrote down a bunch of names and then voted on them. One of the drummer's suggestions, Hallowed Earth, ended up being the winner of the vote.

We're a three piece now, but the name is still the same, four years later.

Shop rat is slang for a factory worker. When our guitarist and I played together in the late 90's, we--including the drummer--were all factory workers. The name was used for this latest version, because it was originally intended to be the same group of guys; a "reunion", but the drummer was passed over in favor of someone who didn't let his chops go.

Our band had been jamming together in various iterations and had really felt no need for a name (or set membership, for that matter). On the way to an open jam at which we intended to play as a band, our guitarist, when asked what we should write on the signup sheet, blurted out off the cuff, "George & The Humdingers." I got there first and wrote that name down. Sure as hell, as a result of the jam, we get offered a gig, and the name has stuck.
Thankfully, our drummer's name is George. The rest of us, well we're just Humdingers.

The band that I enjoyed the most was called I-94.
Many people asked us if it was an allusion to a near-by freeway (I-4 crosses downtown Detroit).
The name was because at the time, all the band members had non-emigrant status and as such, you must fill an form called I-94 when entering the USA.

Guess where they got the name... LOL they have had the name for around 20 years

After a month of disagreements and dead ends, my classic rock band settled on Gunn Highway. It's an actual road in Tampa, where we're located. We agreed on the name mostly out of desperation, but it worked out really well since it gave us instant name recognition thanks to the road's notoriety for traffic accidents. "Gunn Highway... Oh, I've heard of you guys..." Yes, you have. Every morning during rush hour.

My guitarist and drummer got wasted drunk one night in Quebec, and decided that our band should be named after a bottle of wine. I guess they were drinking Shiraz, because we are now going by She Roars! ...The exclamation mark isn't because I'm terrible stoked on myself, it's just part of the title. Not sure where that came from...
