Where do all the lost pens go?

Pens. Everybody uses them, everybody loses them. I don't know about you, but I'm not just finding lost pens all the time. Where do they go? What happens to them?

They all go into the front pocket of my work backpack.

Pet peeve: uncapped & un-retracted pens. They dry out and become useless.

In our house, the lost pens start as normal pens. They are then stolen off a solid surface by the puppy. This process begins with sniffing, then bumping, then licking, then the grab. Once he's had his way with them, the cats come in for the kill. They bat them around for awhile, jumping joyously into the air each time their vicious little claws connect. Ultimately, they kick them under the counters for the goal. ['On the rare occasion a pen is recovered, it is usually severely damaged. If possible, it will be rehabilitated back into the general population.

One of these lost pens ended up in a urinal at work. I walked in the bathroom with a pen perched behind my ear in a manner that was apparently less secure than I realized. The pen wasn't worth fishing out.

Years ago I had a few end up in the washer, where they hemorrhaged over everything. After ruining some of my wife's clothes, it was strongly suggested that I henceforth do my own laundry.
