i'm also a projectionist, and i also get asked this question on a regular basis.
I have made a living playing bass but got sick and had to stop touring a few years ago. I have been healthy for some time now and but haven't found the right band yet. I took a few years off and I am now a District Commercial Account Manager for a large automotive company. It's a great job. I make good money and have 24 hour per day use of a new company vehicle with all expenses paid. I still play but mainly for fun. If the right opportunity presents itself, I would leave the job to tour again.

I'm graduating from College next month. Systems Engineer. I'm working at a Cisco Systems Partner here in Mexico in the Networking Support dept. Hopefully signing a new contract as Junior Account Manager next month too.
