Where do you get your tone from?

I would say that there are a lot of tones that your fingers just can't create. And I also believe, quite sincerely, that your tone comes equally from your gear and your head. Yes, the playing will always sound like you, but the way you sound is up to you, your ears, and your wallet.
All I can tell you is if I suck on a gig, nobody ever blames the equipment ;)

Absolutely true, but at the same time you can't tell me that Al Cisneros would be able to get the sounds he needs for OM out of an SX P and a 15 Watt SS Rogue Amp. :p

You can't use gear to cover for bad playing, obviously, but you certainly can't expect Nerve to do what they do without liberal doses of effected sounds.

This thread is really starting to make me want to get a midi pickup and use samples of other peoples tone instead of actually using anything with any actual tone..............................................................................................................................................................:D

Well obviously. But to say that tone is in the equipment would mean giving up control to the equipment. You can have Al Cisneros' entire rig, but you won't be Al Cisneros when you play it. You'll have a sound like his, but you won't sound like him. That's all I'm saying.
