Where to Sell Used Recording Gear?

My dad owned a recording studio for 25+ years and has recently had to stop working due to health problems. He has a lot of very nice, old school, analog gear, 2" analog tape machines (Stephens 24 track), pro tools systems, etc. I am trying to help my parents sell it, but other than here or maybe eBay, I really don't know what to do with it. Is there another market place for this sort of stuff anyone could recommend?

On the Tape machines, Do you have any paper trails or photos that lead to any famous people who used it to record?
Then maybe a pawn shop? There's some TV show you can watch to get an idea.
If not, then I expect whatever any recent ebay listing went for. You could also, donate it to charity or a school, and could possibly take a tax credit.

On Pro tools, you better check the licensing agreement, but some software does allow resale. Some software is no way to resell. Maybe an account can be sold, or It can be gifted to others. Check with AVID. If he has pro-tools then he might have many plugins from other venders the could also be resold. Each vendor has their own license agreements. I suspect there's going to be a lot of software licenses in the coming years that get abandoned because people don't realize they actually do have value.

One of the Stephens machines he has was the main machine in the studio where Fleetwood Mac recorded their Rumors album, but I don't think he has any paper to prove the machine he has was actually the one used.

Thanks for the input on the Pro Tools stuff-- I will keep that in mind.

Hey that was was big album. If he find some paper, or get some signed and notarized statements it could increase the value.

Thank you guys for all the input-- it is greatly appreciated.

Anyone who might be interested in some legitimately nice analog recording gear, PM me your email address and I will try to get you a list of what we have. There is a lot of stuff that needs to be sold, and I will definitely post some up in the classifieds here, but it will definitely be a processes.
