That's actually a valid sentiment and if the other posts were as reasonable and sincere , a softer response would have been the result. But there exists a contingent of smug , rude people who think that because they have developed a taste for something that is unpalatable to 99 percent of the rest of the world, that they are somehow superior and everyone else is a barbarian. I say the emporer has no clothes. You want to know a great bassist? Hal Patino. If you can't appreciate that he is a virtuoso then you just don't get it. He is 100 times the musician that Jerko was and he is able to function as a human being. If you set someone up as a god then you can be sure that someone will be there to knock him down. Especially if the adulation is undeserved. Jaco doesnt inspire any feeling in me at all, but people who are dismissive of others who don't share their man crush do.

It is a fact with multiple layers of logic that he or any artist is for every one. But for those that he did touch in a positive light that alone makes his birth that much more precious.


Some people go through life and not ever touch one soul. At least there are many souls that appreciate how Jaco touched them.

You come across as perfectly reasonable and thoughtful. We could absolutely agree to disagree and most likely find some other common ground on which to relate. The issue of contention is the idea that if someone doesn't worship Jaco that they are in some way ignorant. I have a pretty broad range of tastes in music, my taste runs more toward disciplined, organized stuff. I get annoyed at the geeky insulting tone of the other posters who think that because Jaco doesn't move me that I am less of a musician/ human being.

I sincerely feel that if you don't like his music it's because you do not have to. And yes, people have a problem with understanding the basics that every one is not going to like their god

Again, I have seen the video ( the actual video) before. I'm 47 years old and have checked out lots of stuff, some I liked some I didn't. When the vid was posted on the thread I opened the link and saw the familiar video and didn't go further. I've seen him before. I didn't Have to watch it and wouldn't watch it because I don't like Jaco . I actually do like Hal Patino but you missed the irony. King Diamond is unlistenable to 99 percent of the world. The musicians in his band are all amazingly talented but I don't consider people to be stupid or deserving of derision because they don't get it .

I think you get annoyed way too easily, to be honest. You stated that you got "flamed" before in a Jaco discussion. I'd suggest that you could actually have learned something from this. Did it happen because you asserted derogatory remarks as if they were objective facts? Because that's what you did in this thread. If you'd like me to quote some examples, they're still there as you haven't edited them as I post.

Maybe if you prefer people to be "reasonable and thoughtful" so that they can "agree to disagree", you could try to avoid insulting their musical likes with your own posts? Just a suggestion. It seems illogical to come into a thread and start bashing music that many people here enjoy and then act all butthurt about how you feel disrespected when they challenge your views.

For the record, I don't worship Jaco or elevate him to godlike status (I don't even elevate God to godlike status, personally). I just appreciate Jaco's music for what it is.

Actually, right here is where it stopped being about JP and became more about the insulting tone of the Jaco fanclub. Like I stated earlier, JP didn't make a strong enough impression either way to elicit any strong emotion- positive or negative.
But at the point that it becomes antagonistic towards me ( as in whoosh- it's over my head) then I will return the vitriol in kind. I will use my verbal skill to defend myself. If you honestly believe that you can come up with something that is over my head then you have seriously misjudged my level of comprehension. I could honestly not care less about Jaco one way or the other. It's the attitude of smug superiority that will create a conflict with me every time.
