I’d go Fender only because the 17.5mm string spacing on the GNL is to narrow for my comfort zone.
My current 5 string has 17mm spacing, a little too close for me.I’d go Fender only because the 17.5mm string spacing on the GNL is to narrow for my comfort zone.
I can understand that. I think I'm actually leaning towards G&l because of the closer spacing.
I voted Fender American Pro II V, but where do you buy one new for $1350?
Fender. I don't want tight string spacings.
With your budget I'd also be looking at Lakland Skyline basses and most definitely in the classifieds.

They're both built by Leo so, there's thatBoth new. Fender American Pro II V or G&l jb-5. Both new. Smaller discount on the G&L.
I prefer the Fender, but it would have to weigh 9 lbs or less
Correction. $1450. Local shop that I've bought at for years. Will give me their sale price anytime.
