Which 5 string J bass would you choose?

I can understand that. I think I'm actually leaning towards G&l because of the closer spacing.

That's what I was going to say. On a 5 string, I definitely prefer the spacing to be more narrow than a 4. Fender Jazz 5s have always felt big and clunky to me.

I'm not the biggest Fender fan, but I could see myself playing this one.

Other than that, this one would get my nod over either.

Didn't mean to imply there was a budget. It's just a comparison of value and choices.

I have short fingers. Tight spacing helps with right hand muting.

If it's a split decision, go for what is important to you.

Oh, heavens yes! Both models tend to run on the heavier-side...just be aware.

I had the Fender briefly, just couldn't adapt to the 47.5mm nut; too wide. Replaced it with a Bacchus Woodline (MIJ). Honestly, a better bass all the way around. Sold it to fund my Muckelroy Jazz which is a whole different level along the line of Sadowski and Fodera.

If you can get a Fender for $1450, I would get that. There is a lot of love for G&L on the board, but (IMHO) it is self-amplified on TB. Nothing wrong with that, but if you decide to sell in two years, the Fender will sell for considerably more than the G&L. If you can play the G&L before purchase, you may favor it. But from my perspective, here are two basses with prices, I would pick the Fender without hesitation.
