Which amp should I buy??

Which amp?

do you think an added cab would give the tone more boom or punch? Or more watts and volume would help better?
I think you'll find even with the extra cab you're going to want more. If you want to stay small the Trace Elliot Elf 10" combo is pretty darn good. I used one while living in some very tight quarters for a few months and sold it to a guy who uses it for bar gigs. 100 watts by itself and 200 with an added cab. But it weights like 18lbs?

Hey Cam,

Bass for better or worse is a power game for both volume and punch. Takes power to move lower frequencies through more speakers. You currently have the basic entry-level size situation to create low level useable sound with an electric Bass.

MB 801 = 45 w @ 8 Ohms/60 w @ 4 Ohms - 1x8" @ 8

You are clearly committed to being in a position to play with others if not right now, then sooner than later. SVT is not the most practical answer for many reasons. The relative investment is better made with quality used gear. Getting something with 400+ watts is not as expensive as SVT and can be 75 lbs lighter. A nice 112, 115, 210 cabinet can be +/-35 lbs. Prices are all over the place, but local saves S/H.

Please consider looking around for a Mesa WD-800 and any number of manageable separate cabinets. I personally play a Mesa TT-800 (and other added stuff) and a Baer ML112 V1.

I shopped it all...!

Good luck with the buy...:bassist:

Hey everyone.

Thoughts on this? Just saw listed on FB marketplace for $750 open to reasonable offers. Good deal or pass?

no I just play along to music at home. But with my current setup I couldn’t play with a drummer if I wanted. I at least want that option.
This doesn't answer your question regarding which type of amp to acquire. However, if your drummer is a pounder then it is time to 'trade up' drummers. A good drummer will be able to play gently enough for any venue. My advice is to not select your amp based upon its ability to keep up with a pounding drummer. In fact, that should be your least important criteria when selecting an amplifier.

Offer $550-600? One can often find each piece for 200 or so.

Yes good rig.
One small possibility, but not very likely, though; the early runs of the amp had issues using two cabs. Some weird noises or something. Like I said, though probably not a big concern but worth noting. Ampeg fixed it in later models but the problem did exist. Happy hunting.

If you want the option of playing with a drummer, I'd trade your Micromark in on a MarkBass CMD 121P, 121H or NINJA 102P.
Don't trade away your Micromark. It is a great little amp that can be useful for a whole lot of situations. If you need something bigger, go for something, but not at the expense of losing that great little Markbass amp.

Oh no, I agree. It’s a great practice amp with lots of nice features. I just also want something with a little more umpth also.

You're going to need a 1x12" or 2x10" plus at least 200+ watts to not struggle with a drummer. If you buy the MarkBass NY121P and use as an extension cabinet to your MicroMark that should get you there.

I'm confused. How does an amp with a max power output advertised by MB @ 60 watts/4 Ohms meet the demands of a minimum 200 watt power requirement with or without an extension speaker??

From MB:

SPEAKER: 1x8"
TWEETER:
optional Satellite Tweeter (not included)
BASS PORT: rear
IMPEDANCE: 8 ohms
CONTROLS: Level /VPF
SPEAKER POWER HANDLING:
200W RMS (AES Standard)
AMP OUTPUT POWER:
60W RMS @ 4 ohms / 50W RMS @ 8 ohms
FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 60 Hz to 8 kHz
WEIGHT: 14.55 lbs / 6.6 Kg
WIDTH: 10.63 in. / 27 cm
HEIGHT: 10.63 in. / 27 cm
DEPTH: 10.43 in. / 26.5 cm

OTHER:
AUX IN
HEADPHONES OUT
XLR Line Out
SPEAKER ON/OFF
Dual Voltage selector 120V/240V (from end of 2017)*
*(not available on the 100V version manufactured for Japan)

POWER REQUIREMENT: 100/120V; 230V; 240V 50/60Hz (Voltage is factory preset according to region of sale).
Product specifications are subject to change without notice.

The 8" SPEAKER IS RATED @ 200 WATTS NOT THE AMPS POWER OUTPUT!

I know all of the professors on TB know that 10 watts additional output is negligible with or without an additional cabinet in the situation requiring 200 watts to keep up.

I'm not nor have I ever been a MB user and can only speak to advertised specifications. :meh:

that’s something I didn’t know.
Thanks.

Ampeg makes many 4 ohm cabs, SVTs sound good at any volume, I frequently practice in a small room with mine into one 4 ohm Ampeg 15", the amp will also run at 2 ohms, a lot of people like SVT-212AVs, never tried one. Why start with lesser amps? Start with the king, SVT. I'm 68 and still lugging them, why? Because in 45+ years I have never found another amp that sounds as good, many very good sounding amps out there but none have the punch and tone of an SVT. Heavy? Yes but hey when I was a kid I used to walk 8 miles to school uphill in snow storms and I didn't whine about it . Dang whippersnappers!

You are right. I was thinking of another unit.
My apologies to you and the OP.

Just wanted to get an opinion on which amp I should get.

What I really want out of the amp is for it to still sound great even at lower volumes, I don’t want to have to shake the house to get the best tone out of it.

I mainly like to play funk or 70’s r&b, but that doesn’t meen I don’t venture out to rock or country.

I currently have a EBMM stingray that I play through a markbass micromark 8in combo.

the combo is great, but I just wonder if I’m missing soo much sound by not getting a different amp.

the options I’m looking at would be:

ampeg svt VR
GK legacy 800
Aguilar tonehammer 500
Or just adding a 12in cab to my current markbass amp.

each would I assume run through a 12in or 15in cab.

aux in and headphone out would be nice addition for practice, but not a dealbreaker.
Look into the Genzler MG800 + NC212T. I just bought this pair and I am extremely pleased.

I own a number of brands and have played most all of them at one point or another. If you have no real opportunity to try out other gear and like the sound of your Markbass gear but just want more of it, I would stick with Markbass options. I thought SJan3 offered some good things to consider.

I would be cautious of buying some of things you listed until you can try them. My main reason for saying that is because IME GK heads and the Aguilar TH sound very different (I own 3 GK heads and a TH500).
