right? thats been my experience. the less instruments the more youre kind of able to do whatever you want not just playing wise but tonally as well.

Which bass for a power trio?

right? thats been my experience. the less instruments the more youre kind of able to do whatever you want not just playing wise but tonally as well.
Well if the OP had a Pbass with decals ,stickers , mods , or relic I might have thought of those bands . But based upon what he had in his arsenal ..... that black Stingray stood out and shouted Red Hot Chili Peppers.
And yes I know they aren’t really a trio but in that era I saw a lot more Stingrays than I did sunburst Pbass and tort. To me that’s the Motown 60’s -70’s Rock Funk Blues Pino Neo soul hipster now in style vintage old school bass.
Simple....Take the Jazz.
Set amp flat and volume at 4-5.
Set the Jazz treble volume full and the bass at about 8
Set the 4 tone to about 3.
Pluck the strings over the bass pick up and you will get clarity and punch to the MAX from your Jazz Bass.
3-piece ‘90s/‘00s pop rock and punk? I gotta say the Music Man’s your Huckleberry. Take the P for backup, or more ballad-y stuff.
I got this from Greasy Groove. Great fit and quality seems solid enough. I’ve had it for about 4 years with no warping issues
Either one of these guys is a giant or the others are midgets.Looks like your going to need a couple of pickups before you will be properly equipped for a power trio. And don't forget the vest with no shirt rule.

I loved the P with pick and drive the most in this situation, it sounds killer with grit/distortion and neatly fills all the space it can get without drowning anyone out. There were also plenty of melodies to play, so I had one patch with mild chorus and reverb, again, a killer sound and enough sonic space to make it bloom.

From a guy that has played Fenders for almost a half a century, for a power trio, I’d choose the Music Man, which will give you the broadest voice of the three options. That said, for a Jam session, I don’t think it matters as much which one, but how well you play. Take the one you play the best.
I don't see how any of these basses could possibly work in a power trio. I suggest you buy something else immediately and have it shipped next-day express.

Silly question to ask strangers who don’t know your style of playing, so I’d say bring whichever one you think brings out the best in your playing and your preferred tone. And consider a slight touch of octave pedal, to fill out some of the space around the notes.
