Double Bass Which EUB did you sell and why?

Original Azola Floating Top Bug Five String. Lovely bass that didn't get used much; I hated seeing it just sitting around not getting played. Sold it in favor of NS Design BassCello, which also doesn't get used much
. I'm a DBist who usually arranges for rental basses when touring, so I wanted something really tiny that would fit in the overhead for those gigs when it's not possible. It's worked out very well. I need to bust it out more often and enjoy it for what it is, because I really dig the little bugger.
PS... after typing that, I just did bust it out. What a cool little bass. Sometimes I forget it's even over there in the corner.

First had an Original Ampeg Baby Bass.
Upgraded the bridge/pup system to get a more modern tone.
Then got concerned about the fragility and stability of the uvex body with steel strings tension, and sold it, in original state.
Bought an original BugBass, the one with a single Bass Max pup.
I was unsatisfied with the tone and used the same bridge/pup system I kept from the BB.
That tone was better to my ears, but still not to my full liking so I sold it, in original state.
Then bought a Carruthers SUB-1, which I still own today.
It needed a good fingerboard reshaping, and the stock pup system can sound somewhat strange at times.
I changed the bridge, and recently the endpin system too.
I also put a K&K Big Twin on it, the same way an Underwood is used, not Fishman style.

This was the first bass I played too, a Framus Triumph. Being young at the time I could only afford to carry on by playing BG, which I eventually stuck to full time.
With regard to your other options, nowadays I have a number of gigs to justify having a EUB so I've bought an NS. If I do sell it will be to try another make, I imagine.

2. Concentrate on UB (and bass guitar)

I've noticed a lot of people on this board really taking to the various NS series as instruments in their own right, not UB, not EB. Cool.

I bought an Ergo as a rehearsal and travel bass. I could never get happy with it. I changed strings, modified the stand, played with the pickup and bridge, different preamps, etc... I could never get the tone I wanted
I've always had a facination for Ned Steinberger's instruments so when the WAV's came out I sold the Ergo and picked one up. I upgraded the stand and have been very happy with it.
It's versitile, sounds good, and travels well.

My first EUB was an original Ampeg Baby bass sunburst I bought on eBay in the mid 90's. I changed the metal bridge to a wooden bridge and bought a new pickup for it from Steve Azola. I played it in a jazz and blues group until the band dissolved in 1999 and I sold the bass, thinking I was going to get an Azola Baby bass. At 6'4", I'm not one for those neck-on-a-stand stick styles. I am more comfortable with an EUB that has adequate body substance as the balance of a good anchor.
I never did get an Azola bass, although I can't commend enough the service I received when I was dealing with Steve and his wife getting the bridge and pickup for the Ampeg.
I hooked up with a Country Rock/Classic Rock group afterward and I picked up one of the EUB eBay specials that has been discussed before in the EUB forums Sojing EUB and brought the action down to a playability range (it came in with a very high action) and I have played this one interspersed with a 5-string Modulus Genesis EB, a 4-string Fender Jazz EB as well as a Michael Kelley Acoustic bass and a standard DB.

I sold my ergo stick to buy a Larivee Custom Shop acoustic guitar that was at a price I couldn't refuse. I am now wishing I still had that bass but am planning on working on building me a new one...I loved that thing though...portable, comfortable, and with a good PA had a great tone
i've had and sold a few...
1.carruthers sub-1. qute a nasal, typical piezo sound. also just poor for arco sound-wise. uneven string volumes. the hip-attachment ended up becoming loose where there is a threaded insert on the body and i was really afraid of it giving out. no way to adjust the relief on the neck.
2.older clevinger. not sure which model. same problem as the carruthers with the piezo-only design, both in sound and arco approach. uneven string volume as well.
3.kydd big kydd. as with the other two, bad piezo and arco sound. uneven string volumes.(seeing a pattern here?) no onboard volume/tone control. no relief adjustment. way too thin of a neck for me. not designed for real db strings. the tripod stand was flimsy.
i now have an ns design, with both magnetic and piezo pickups, and electronics taylored for arco as well as pizz options. individual piezo volume and magnetic pickup height adjustability. relief adjustability. it really solved the issues for me...the most important issue being piezo-only is just too nasty to my ears.
no eub will ever sound like an acoustic bass imho, and the ns sounded the most musical of the bunch so far.

I had a Knutson Messenger DLX EUB for about a year. Great playing bass, easy to set the controls for sweet pizz and arco tones with minimum fiddling. I took it in to John Knutson for some setup work and he offered to buy it from me on the spot for $50 more than I had paid for it (used).
I didn't use it a whole lot, but it was great for improv jam stuff with octave, fuzz, envelope, flanger, and synth pedals. My main issue with the bass is that it fit in the trunk of my car with mere millimeters to spare. Sometimes it took 5-10 minutes to shoehorn stuff into my car after a gig, which is not a great idea latenight in sketchy 'hoods.
I miss the bass but didn't really need it at the time. Definitely had more of a "real DB" vibe than the Steinberger, Dean, and Palatino EUBs I've played.
