Which Fender Jazz to get?

I'd like to throw a nod to the Fender Jazz 24. I've played several in stores, and almost every single one played excellently, and the one I bought is every bit as killer. I heard some of the earlier made basses had issues with their preamp shorting out, but I've had mine for just at a year and had no problems with it.

Bought mine at a GC for $600 (for the bass and a hardshell case).

I own the following basses..

5 x Fenders (3 MIA, 2 are 5ers)
1 x Bongo 5
1 x Lakland 55-02
1 EBMM Stingray

What do I keep coming back to? My Fender Geddy. It is my go to bass. It is THE bass for slap IMO and I use it for RHCP, U2, ZZ Top, Reggae and metal.

I have owned 20+ basses over the years and the Geddy is the easiest to play IMO and sounds great.

P.S. If you buy one, get new tuners as the stock ones are

Geddy all the way. I've played one for a while at my local music store and it plays and sounds better than a 1979 Rick. 4001 that I've played more than the Geddy.

I can make it growl with even the most sterile and hi-fi amps. I'm so temped to get one, but I'm trying not to break the bank for one, and I'm not bringing in a whole lot of dough for myself at 15.

If you can afford the Geddy alright, Try it and you'll probably buy it.

I guess some more info is nessicary here.

I play mainly jazz, blues, fusion and a bit of rock. I need a punchy but deep sound with the classic jazz bass slap tone. The main reasons I was looking at Sadowskys is the present sound in a band context and the equal note, volume, and tonal response all up and down the neck. I have had too many really nice basses that lose all presence when you get up onto the G string.

From what I have heard the Fender Jazz would offer all of these things as well.

Look into the Fender Deluxe Active Jazz bass as well. I used to own one. Great bass for the price IMO/IME. Its quite a versatile bass that can cut the mustard in any genre.

I'm a big fan of the Geddy Lee model. It's my only Fender, and it compares to much more expensive models. The neck is awesome, and bound, and it's got the classic Jazz vibe.

Hate to break it to you, but they are no longer bound. They are painted to look so. Probably saves Fender $40-50 per bass, which is a big deal considering they are sold to retailers for around $400-500.
