Which head has most bang for buck

The only problem with that, is you don't get that kickass GK growl with the LM2.

Fair enough, but solid state growl never got the job done for me. I can't say I never used solid state distortion before, but in a perfect world I greatly prefer tubes to be in the signal path.

Another +1 for the GK. I've got a 400RB-IV through an Avatar 2x10 Neo and am in love with the tone. PLENTY of power for me Plus the reliability and Made in the USA are huge for me. I have no experience with the Eden although have heard good things.

with all the talk about the economy in bad shape many people prefer to buy American made products. But Eden makes its nemesis RS400 in China I beleive. The higher end series are American made

I never knew that about GK Backlines, but if it were me, I'd save another hundred and get a Markbass LM2. Weighs less than half of the 400RB, and puts out 500w at 4 ohms rather than the GK's 280w at 4 ohms.

IMO, G-K has been the best bang for the buck for quite some time. Never used the Backline series but have been an 800RB owner for twenty years, and also have a 700RB III.

Great clean tones and the best growl tone from any solid state amp I've ever used, and they're priced very reasonably.

Only suggestion I have is the new hartke lh1000 head, its around 660 dollars but it gets 500 to 1000 watts, so maybe save up and get that

800RB - Can't beat a classic.
700RB-II - There are a few in the classifieds right now at $400 or less.
1001RB-II - 2 @ GC.com for under $500

It has all the features of the 320 and more.

I tried one of these out and loved the sound through an eden 4x10. Also, its a killer looking head. the word "NEMESIS" lights up a whole room when its on and its dark inside.

hmmmm.... not really a full out distortion, per se....... more like a little bit of low end authority! Actually, Bob himself calls it, "a small amount of even order harmonic distortion."

And you're right.... in a perfect world, soundmen would always mic our cabs so our beautiful tube sound could be heard..... and tube heads would weigh less than 30 lbs., or we'd each have a roadie to lug it for us!

I will look into the classified ads here. I am new to the site and am a little leary of buying something used but its worth a try I guess. But I really like the way that nemesis looks

My backup head is an NA-320. I think it sounds great. I bought both my Eden heads and one of my D112XLT speakers used and haven't had a problem with any of them.

I cant find info on the NA320 from Edens website. Did they discontinue it or do they just call it the RS400. They look the same but the 320 was blue??

GK has the reliability, pro-quality sound, and customer service that you should get when you buy an amp.

Eden, on the other hand, does not provide these three qualities.

I bought a used Ashdown Superfly, delivered, for $200.

Ashdown is coming out with a newer, 300 wt and 600 wt version that is smaller and lighter than the Superfly, but I don't know if they are available yet.
