Which Ibanez to choose?

That archtop Artcore bass plays like a very expensive bass. I love everything except the MM pup in the middle. Sounded good, anyway. Deep and warm.

It is definately deep and driving, and I am just needing another bass right now.

But I love the soundgear, very light and very nice all around.

I have a SR485 and I'm very satisfied with it. I played a K5 but I liked my 485 better because it's one piece of mahogany, not 2 pieces with something in between.

Ibanez is alright I think.

I love my EDB605 (Ergodyne) It's a great bass.

You'll get plenty of hard headed traditionalists bashing Ibanez (probably because it's a foreign company) and they'll really bash the non traditional materials (luthite) but really, most of them haven't even played one and are just regurgitating what they've heard from others - a lot of what you read (re: EDB & EDA) is based in ignorance. The haters should really stay out of Ibanez threads - if you have a problem with Ibanez stuff, don't respond to a 'which Ibanez' thread my $.02

I play an EDA905F, myself, and a Lakland Skyline 5 (Fretted). I've played a wide variety of fours (I miss my Vox Phantom - [sniff]), and I have to say that I love the sound of my EDA with good strings. Right now it has a set of Ken Smiths on it and I like how they sound, but they're chewing up the fingerboard. Anyhoo...

I respectfully disagree about the "haters" staying out of these discussions. Someone who is just going to be negative without foundation or reason for it *should* probably keep quiet (but probably won't ), but a person who has had a bad experience or three with Ibanez might have something valuable to contribute.

This is gettin' long... let me cut to it. My EDA is a wonderful instrument, and I enjoy it a lot, but it could be a lot better. My other Ibanez bass was an old replica of the Gibson Flying V as a bass (I've never seen a real Gibson Flying V Bass... did one exist?). It had a lovely froggy tone, but the neck rapidly bowed to the point that the intonation was shot no matter what I did. I wound up trading it for a small amp.

It's worth noting that Ibanez has discontinued the EDA. I wonder why?

Anyone that even mentions Slipknot and Nickelback in the same sentence as Led Zeppelin cannot be trusted to give you a worthwhile opinion. Try a few different models and go for what you like. Personally, I love my customized BTB!

I cant believe Ibanez recently discontinued the EDA, I love my EDA905 (RRF is the best colour for it ever ) , the only thing i think would be better is if they used a better magnetic pup, but i could sort that myself, i also have a BTB406QM, and yeah, you can get alot of sounds out of it, but i just love the sound i get from my EDA, some ppl will say its an aquired taste, but ive loved it from the moment i picked it up in the shop, you really do need to play about with the "set n forget" controls a bit tho

personally i think the SR's are horrendous, not tried the really high up models tho, the SRX's are better, and i love the ATK's, i really want one! i also have an ibanez Tr50, which i got for £50 in a pawn shop, it was minging and scabby, but it still sounds good

I´ve played almost every Ibanez bass in the market, and I´ve owned 2, one SR400 that was my main bass for 6 years until I bought an used ATK305 like a year ago.

Based on my experience, ATK´s are the best modern Ibanez you can find, too bad they were discontinued few years ago.

I'm a vintage guy, but this is one hell of a bass for the money!

I own an SR300DX , and just bought a Fender standard Precision Bass (MIM). From all the talk I had to at least have a fender. The fender is a fine piece of craftsmanship, nice wood, finish, hardware etc.

But..... I prefer the Ibanez over it for sound, feel, looks, and playability. I plan to keep both, but I would sell the fender before I sold the Ibanez. It may be the only perfect SR300DX made, I dont know, But I love this bass
