Which is Better Precision or Jazz bass (Pros and Cons)

I mostly agree, especially the Coke and Duncan Donuts. As to P vs. J, I would choose a Deluxe P, only 'cause it's my only Fender bass, and it's better than your bass. In fact, it could beat your bass up with 2 strings tied behind it's neck, and both eyes closed. There.
Actually, now that some guys mention it, and thinking about it, the Jaguar Bass would be the ideal bass for someone who can't decide between a P or a J.
It's a cool instrument.
Really? I always kinda' thought of the Jag as an active Jazz bass. I've only ever played one, so I guess I should find another and play it to refresh my memory.
Anyway, since I do not own a P-Bass, and I own several Jazz basses, I feel an obligation to Talk Bass to buy a P-Bass so that I can weigh in on these P vs. J threads.
I play a lot of blues.....then some rock.....then some crock (country rock)........for blues I love the P bass sound.....but since you have an A,B,C and D neck situations.......if I had a P with an A neck that is what I would play.......even a B neck......but the D neck is just too much for me...........simple suggestion......get the P you like.....swap out a Jazz neck and put it on the P......thin neck and the great P sound.......that is what I did and love it.......

The Precision is the real thing. The Jazz is a tarted-up P designed to sell to kids who like shiny doodads.

It's been demonstrated that Ps are better in the southern hemisphere and Js in the northern hemisphere... the earth's magnetic field effect on one or two pickups I guess.

I think you mean a C neck- the D neck was an acoustic instrument width and as far as I know never appeared on an electric bass.
I never like C necks until I got my Fullerton '62 RI. Very thin front to back and even the whole length of the neck, which I don't like on a Jazz but feels gorgeous to me on a C width neck. Apparently they are similar to the early '60s Fender P necks, which I've never tried, though I've tried a few Jazz basses from the same era and they were real nice bit too slim for me.

You're right, it is bit like an active Jazz bass. But I think the Jaguar is underestimeted, it is a very versitale bass.
I love my fretless Jazz. (going to trade in in for two Curbows though).
But given me the choice of a fretted Jazz or Jaguar, I'd go for the Jaguar. (either in red or black)
That would be my choice if I ever get called upon for a fusion/rock band.
I used to own a defretted Jaguar copy (don't know what brand anymore). It wasn't that bad but I traded up for a MIM Jazz fretless.

Fender offers these two basses not to be compared to each other, but to have a range of different basses.
It's like comparing an off-roader with a race-car from the same car brand.
For pure nostalgic reasons I want a P-bass. It was my first bass and have great memories of it. (It was a Squier).
I don't care for MIA MIM MIJ CIJ Squier or other brand that makes a good copy,... a P-bass is a P-bass in my eyes.
I'd be as happy with a Squier P (Affinity or VM) than with a MIA dlx.
to get the p bass tone on my jag i simply turn both pups on in series mode and turn up the active bass one third leaving the treble wheel completely down
I've had loads of jazzes over the years... Mex std 5, MIJ Geddy Lee, Am. S1 jazz, Marcus Miller (currently) but I've only just got my first precision, a 2008 American Standard in 3TS with maple board. Wow. What a punch!
I think you should get a P bass with a noisless split coil J pup at the bridge. In other words, there is no best
i have a fender MIM p/j and it plays and sounds great. i A/B'd it with my friend's early 1980's MIJ power jazz bass (with a black holographic headstock which ive never seen before) which is also p/j. my MIM sounded just slightly less bassy but a clearer high end.
