On a P? Maple. On a J? Rosewood. Although, both of my PJs have ebony so I dunno.

I'm not a big fan of the fretboard being darker than the body color, but that's just me.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool, maple, bound and MOP blocked kinda guy........so, of course, in this instance I voted...........rosewood.

Nevermind looks, maple fretboards are just better. A nice sealed top means less truss rod adjustments.

So very true. As long as you’re playing in the junior varsity leagues. If you’re really serious about that kind of stability, you won’t be looking at single-piece necks at all. Three-ply at a minimum, five better. Or graphite.

Besides, who says you can’t seal rosewood, or any other fingerboard?

To the OP: go with the one that sounds better.

I like the maple neck on it...here's why:

I have an Olympic White Jazz Bass instead of a P-bass because I love the neck on my Jazz. I think a maple neck just looks better on a white bass. Just to carry that "white bass" theme a bit farther, I have some white tape-wound LaBella flats coming for it. Will be the first time I've used flats since the mid-70's. I've worn off a lot of the black coating on the DR Black Beauty strings I have on it now.

Yup! I'd go with the maple neck.

Both look great. I would make my decision based on better feel... which in this case for me would likely be the 58 spec

The photo of the maple neck bass is over-exposed giving the photo a washed out look. If we were just going by the photos, it's not really a fair comparison between these two.

But generally speaking, I prefer the looks of rosewood or other dark tropical hardwoods with the exception of certain body and pickguard colors.

Fender 63 AVRI with original laminated rosewood fretboard or with 58 AVRI neck. I can’t decide which I like better ...

Thank you for the input everyone. I was listening to Blink 182 today and I think Mark Hoppus would go with maple so I’m gonna keep it for a while. Plus it is unique AF.
