Yeah man, I totally agree, that tort guard in this particular picture is horrible, I would never put that on my Bass permanently, Yuk! 
OP here; Yeah, I decided to go with the 3 ply Black; there really never was a question about it ... I mean there was but ... anyways, Thanks all for your input, I believe I made the right decision.
Most the time I would go Tort, But that Black looks good!!

I didn't know they made any color other than black !!!!
Tort all day long although if you can find it I'd personally go with a more classic reddish one.
I actually like the brown salami one too though. I just went back to page one and had another look and I do like that one.
Second choice white.
Don't really like the black and I absolutely detest gold anodized and mint and any of that stuff.

I normally like sunburst/rosewood/tort. However, I voted black because given the lighting in these pics, the black looked best. Also, that particular pattern of tort didn't really go with that particular style of sunburst. not all are created equal. just my .02

You can get away with black, tort or other but white/white pearloid is the only color that will match the fretboard inlays.
I do like gold anodized on some colors; but oddly enough, I've never cared for it on traditional 2 or 3 color Sunburst. I do like it on my HoneyBurst American Special and an old MIM Honey Blonde '50s P.
Black or white pearloid will work ok I guess. Just be careful with the Tort for science has now proved it is the reason for the 60 cycle hum.
fake anodized! So there's no tiny sound difference that will drive you insane!
