Which rig are you using these days? If you use more than one, which gets the call most often?

I use a Clarus series 3 amp with Wizzy 10 or Wizzy 12 cabs.

I used a GK MB150E combo for about a year, but prefer the Clarus/Wizzy 10 rig now for its better clarity and punch.

  3. GK 200MB for low volume gigs. Walter Woods amp with Schroeder Mini 12+L or EA Wizzy M for louder gigs.

old 800 RB into a likewise old GK210T. not sure why there's a T in the name... no tweeter in the cab. That 800RB sure takes a piezo well and of course covers electric. good poor man's rig.

And just the other day, I saw the Levon Helm Band. Awesome set. His DB player? 2 800 RB's in the rack, playing for a festival of 15,000 (vibes).

AI Focus/WZ110 (uprite/EUB/quiet BG); GK MB 150 (mostly BG); DrBass 112&112LF/Traynor YBA3 Custom (BG only). GK once in a while w/ DrBass 112 (EUB/BG). Gonna try AI w/DrBass stack if the right gig comes up.My goal has been to have a rig for any occasion with no one piece too big to easily get out of the trunk of a taxi. The Traynor pushes the envelope, but doesn't get called to serve very often.

This looks like a case where the poll doesn't give us a true answer, since many of us are using at least a couple of rigs, one for really small gigs and another one (or more) for bigger stuff. Even the "more often" doesn't seem to do the job, since it's less a matter of preference and more depending on gig size.

Everytime I am tempted by EA or whatever, I remember that the AI always works and normally sounds really good. The lifetime warranty doesn't hurt.

You're right, of course. Consider my version a first draft. Want to have a go at designing a better amp poll (big venue, small venue, more brands represented)?

I actually think your current version is plenty telling of what double bass players are up to: we play multiple venue sizes and tailor multiple rigs to fit the challenge of playing a sonically awkward instrument in sonically uncooperative performance spaces. That comes through more clearly than I can imagine a poll could.

The Phil Jones is one channel only, but I've been using it almost exclusively for the past few months. When I need to blend, I use the AI/EA rig.
