White P basses..what pickguard color?

Hard to beat the late Tommy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band and his 70's P white with black 'guard...

I have a 76' P bass waiting on getting restored and this is what it will look like when I'm done.

I'm really digging that combo. You mint looks a little more minty (darker) than others though, or it could just be the photo. What kind of pick guard is that? Is it an OEM Fender guard or from a. third party?

It's a standard Fender pickguard on an American Vintage '63 Precision Bass.

Not true. I don't care for tort with any of the burst finishes or matched with cool paint colors such as blue or anything in that family.

I had to Google Tort but I had a hunch what it is and I was right. I still say black!

I've had white pearl on white, tort on white, and purple pearl on white. The purple has hung around the longest just because it matches the local high school colors. IMHO, tort only looks good on a white bass with a RW fretboard.

My preference for white is always black or pearl.

Tort is by far the best choice, with black a very distant second.

There is nothing ugly about a tort guard on a white Precision bass. Just absolutely a classic match up. Especially on a 25 year old Oly white refinish like on my 1960 Precision bass. If you have the real old original tort like I have on mine, it's a thing of beauty.

Not the clearest image, but the rosewood board is dyed "ebony" and it looks killer with the black guard and the white pickguard screws. I love white basses!
