Whitney Houston---Dead?

Dang, man. Another beautiful and gifted life ruined and ended too young by alcohol and drugs. Such a waste, such a shame. I'm gratefully recovered from both, and don't take it for granted. It just hurts me the more when it takes someone.

She had a great voice, very powerful when she started singing. The live performances I heard when she "peaked" (or right after) didn't impress me, I thought she "warbled" way too much (trying to throw 500 notes into one syllable)
I NEVER heard Whitney over-sing or over-riff. It's one of the many reasons I admired her singing style; she didn't try to prove herself with a lot of unneccessary "warbl(ing)" like so many less-talented and less-disciplined singers.

I'm afraid there is a little bit more to addiction and dependency than that. Predisposition and genetic predisposition for a start, that's discounting the other aspects of her career. I doubt she really 'chose' to go out like that, do you?

No, I don't think she "'chose' to go out like that", but I do suspect that she chose to use drugs, in the beginning. Singing abilities aside, she had the opportunity not to use drugs. For the sake of those who admire her and may wish to emulate her, that fact must not be overlooked.

A good deal of people with addiction problems tend to try to self medicate for pre-existing conditions, in that arena even more so. She was a extraordinary talent, sad to see it end like this indeed.

Also remember that Bobby is on tour with that group of his, and that they divorced some time ago.

She had a great voice back in the day, but she ceased to be musically relevant to me long ago. I don't know if it was the drugs in the end, but when the drama outpaces the music, I lose interest.

Sorry for the family she left behind, especially the daughter. Hopefully she will be raised in a good home.
