Who’s playing a squire?

I am! It's the original China Classic Vibe JB. Though the only thing left stock on it are the tuners. I just wasn't able to find a Fender that would feel as good as it so I said "Fudge it!" and modded the hell out of it. Pickguard went for a better looking tort (Yes, there's tort and then there's tort). The original high-mass bridge went for an Omega Bass Bridge. The pickups were swapped for Fender Originals and the VVT controll plate was swapped for a VTVT. The tuners work perfect so there was no need to change those.
Nor me. It's hard to do so when typing. If I could manage that sort of multi-tasking I'd be very happy.
i often noodle on a bass - often one squier or another - while i read thread on TB. i do have to stop playing, however, to type replies
My Squire 70’s style Mustang bass sounds and plays phenomenally. Love me a Squire!
2011 VM Jaguar. The only Fender bass I own.
First rehearsal today...exceeded all my expectations.A fantastic looking bass, and the D'Addario ETB92 Nylons must sound great on it as well.
Who's playing a Squier? Not me. But, to be perfectly clear: I don't think they're "cheap"; I don't think they're "beginner basses"; and, after messing around with a few of them over the years? I don't think they're bad instruments, either. So, why am I not playing one? Couple of reasons;
1. Squier (and their parent company) don't really seem to want my business. Of all the basses they make - in all the colors they offer, Squier makes exactly TWO left handed basses. A 3TB Precision Bass, and a black Jazz Bass. I'm not sure why; maybe they think lefty's don't deserve basses in other colors, or... maybe it's just so they can say that, why of course we make left handed basses. Either way, I'm inclined to look elsewhere...
2. I don't want a Jazz Bass; I've never wanted a Jazz Bass; and although I do own a couple of Black basses (a JetGlo '73 Rick 4001, and an '88 Kramer Forum III), black isn't my favorite color. As for a Precision Bass? Already got one; a 3TB Nitro-finished '78 Fender P with an "A" spec neck. Had it for... 33 years, now. It's all the 34" scale Precision Bass I want - or need. If I want to play a different P, I have a 30" scale Warmoth Mini-Precision that satisfies that Jones. If - and when - Squier/Fender ups their game, lefty-wise? I'll certainly give them a serious look. But, I ain't holding my breath...

2012 CV (has a red tort, now.) Best bass I've played since I started (1994-ish.)

Same here. I can read and play. I am still working on singing and playing, but I stammer so singing is hard enough on its own unless it's la la la. But I do all this with one of my SQUIERs, of course.
Currently I have:
- VM fretless Jazz. Modded with a pickguard and different knobs. This is the original one with Duncan designed pickups which are quite meh. It took a fair bit of sanding to get the neck how I wanted it. I'd prefer a rosewood neck to ebanol. It plays well but I am not wild about it except when strung with roundwounds for a modern sound. It has TI rounds on it at the moment which don't give the most modern sound, but are nice to play.
- Two 2005 Squier standards. Both could stand a little more fretwork above the 17th fret, but I like a low action (circa 1.75mm 12th fret E). Different colours, sound the same. The pickups are a little bright, but no so much that I currently feel the need to replace them, not least because a standard PJ set won't fit as the routing for the bridge pickup is neck pickup width. I do have a replacement P to try, and that's the pickup I use the most.
I did once have on long-term loan a 1983 JV Precision. That would have been the best of the above if I still had it.

Good time to buy a Squier!
I've always had a Squier bass. My first was a 90-ish HM-V in Midnight Wine. Played it forever until I traded it off for a MiM Pbass. I've also had a standard p/j, a Jazz Deluxe Active V, a Contemporary Jazz Active, and my current ride or die, a VM p/j in sunburst. All quality, all reliable. It's what you make of it.
