TBH: i was hoping the newbies would be more responsive. most of the grumpy-old-fart types and 'regulars' are gonna do what they do, anyway (read the thread!). also: many seem to think that the most general of 'info' is unsafe, somehow --- and it may be, IDK.

The bad actors that want my information already have access to it if they know what they're doing. I'm a retired veteran. The DoD, TriCare, and other government offices have leaked my information (along with hundreds of thousands of others) numerous times over the last 2 decades.
I lock my door when I'm not home or when I'm in for the evening, but I'm not gonna stress over the possibility of a burglary or home invasion. I take the same type of approach to the above.
When I got on the internet, I'd seen way to many movies with names like Hackers, Crackers, Trackers, etc, and decided to approach this with a healthy dose of scepticism. Turns out most people give Up the banking details to a silver tongued Nigerian rather than having their computer laid bare by a teenage mastermind .
Now I treat internet conversations like any face-to-face interaction. Which seem to go smoothly enough with neither party being aware of all manner of background details of the other participants. It's no secret that I live in Australia. But the value of that information is minimal when talking about gear. People can do the maths on the exchange rate. But much more ephemeral is the extra cost of buying in a small isolated market. Which calculation is easier done at my end.
As for the burglars, having something toothy on show has been working well for me so far.
I'd take a rick if you're giving them away, used to have a 72, gave it to my brother when he formed his first band. he ended up milling a neck pocket and putting a p-bass neck on it. lol. the only bitch I had with it was the saddle screws were chintzy, the bent and rusted. if I had it back I would have replaced those with hardened set screws.
Wit Sec said not to.... so forget anything that might give you an idea of who I am or my city I live in. Ok I just added a picture of me but .... it’s when I was 16 years old. Oh yea... my age should be around the time of the Fender Tele Bass ( 1st model, no humbuck ) and Acoustic 371/370, I think that they are the correct model numbers. Bought amp at WMC aka: Chuck Levin’s, yea the one outside the DC area, a little north maybe... but I lived a little south of the area. All I’m willing to share.

i didn't mean much by it. i've had the experience of thinking i'm responding to a male --- only to find that i'm really addressing a female (and vice versa). if there is no indication, and if the avatar is ambiguous, it can be difficult to know --- and the only party who is ever offended is the one who doesn't want to share that info on their profile page, IME.
it's not a big deal for me. none of this is a big deal for me --- i was just curious about why folks don't share what i/others consider to be basic info. so i started this thread. it's apparent to me now how sensitive some are about sharing stuff.
It's not a big deal. I cannot count the number of times I've been called "bro" or something similar here but most of the time I don't bother to correct. It's easy to assume that most of us here are guys. I did input my age, gender and location in the profile, but not gear, bands, joining clubs and all that yet. I've been more involved than I expected to be, so if that continues, I will fill out that info sometime in the future.
