Who cares about 90's basses??

one thing about back then was instead of everyone going for pbass with flats and trying to act vintage we had a lot of cool colors and the modern tone we all know today was really going on. Warwick, Tobias, Ibanez, Spector pretty much ruled the 5 string scene. I kinda miss the purples and blues and the sleekness everything was going for. Of course you had the jazz bass craze in the grunge scene but we got to see the boutique thing really catch on. Zon, Modulus, Pedulla, the list goes on.

Not sure but 34% of the respondents share the same opinion as the OP...I'm kinda scared and will be avoiding 90's basses until we get this thing sorted out. Think, think, think...what did I buy in the 90's? A Streamer ProM 4, LX4, and my first fiver, a Yamaha BB. They were fine so it must be something else.

Actually 13% are undecided.

I have some '90s G&Ls that I love. A '91 SB-1 (the very tail end of the pre-BBE era), a '95 L-5500, a '96 L-2000, a '97 SB-1, and two late '90s L-1500s. That said, I don't necessarily love the specs changes that G&L made in the '90s. I don't like the matte finished necks, the white-letter decals (though similar ones started pre-BBE on some models), or that by the end of the decade, they had gone to a 12" radius on the basses.

I've got a 92' fender jazz bass and I always had his hopes for the thing but could never grown to like it. Anyone have similar experiences or opposite ones?

Not a 90s bass, but am experiencing a new outlook on my Jazz. Just recently, I'm starting to enjoy my Geddy Jazz more than my Precision.

I've always loved Precision basses, especially my '74. But in recent months, I've had to stop using finger style due to an aggravated/inflamed index finger after playing. 8th notes have become out-of-the-question. I've always loved Carol Kaye and some years ago tried her picking method, but never delved into it... until now. So for the last several months, no fingers, only pick. It will take a while, but I'm slowly developing competency.

Back to the Jazz... with a pick, I'm really digging the tone over the Precision. Not sure if it's the Geddy or just the sharpness in tone I'm getting using a pick.

My collection includes 1995 Epiphone Accu-Bass, which was their P-bass variant. That thing is amazing. It has a deep, in-your-face tone that is perfect for rock and prog. It weighs almost 13 pounds, with string-through-the-body and massive brass bridge saddles. It sustains for days. The neck is solid as heck. The only “downside” is that funky hockey stick headstock, but it has its own charms. The fact that it’s tilted back 13 degrees or so makes it sustain even more.
