Who do you think would be good Superbowl Halftime performers?

Would you guys want a band that you considered to be good to play at the Super Bowl? I wouldn't. I'd like to think they wouldn't resort to such blatant commercialism. Just like I wouldn't want to see any of my favorite bands play in a church. Nothing against church, it just wouldn't be appropriate for Black Sabbath, for example, to play there.

Thankfully this topic no longer concerns me. Now that the NFL has deserted my hometown yet again I've finally got to the point that I just don't care enough to watch. The constant penalties and bad officiating started it, Stan Kroenke finished it off.

On topic, I think Alice in Chains and Adele with Heart would cover most age groups and genres. AIC is still an active band with decent sales on their new stuff and plenty of past hits. Heart puts on a great show every time and are already very familiar playing with AIC. Adele is a good performer with mass appeal and plenty of hits. I'm not at all familiar with rap or RnB so insert your favorite into that lineup and I can't think of many problems with some variation of those performers.

What's the point of having a concert in the middle of a sporting event anyways?

Not sure if you noticed while watching the game (you did watch the game, right?), but from about 4 minutes into the first quarter until halftime, the announcers kept saying "tune in to the half time show in just a few minutes!". They repeated that about every 3 minutes or so. One of the viewers at the party I was at commented "what the hell? Why do they keep saying that?". One of the wives answered "It's for all of the wives and girlfriends that don't watch football. If they think the halftime show is coming up in just a minute, they wont keep nagging their husbands about how boring the game is."

In answer to your question, they put a concert in the middle of a worldwide-televised sporting event, in order to keep the folks that may not be into football (but are forced to watch it anyways) happy. They don't care about our self-righteous indignation about how the performers aren't playing live. They don't care about that fact that it's a pay to play commercial. They don't care that it's pop acts up there. They enjoy the show.

I hope that didn't come off as snarky. It's more of a response to the thread in general. Your post just provided a launching board for my rant.

Y'know, as soon as I saw this thread title I thought of one of those Japanese all-girl pop/metal acts that I saw a video of recently. Can't remember their name though...and if you Google "Japanese all-girl pop/metal band who perform in plaid schoolgirl miniskirts and thigh-high stockings" you get an astonishing number of hits! And none of them are the band I'm thinking of!!! Is this a whole new genre of kiddie-pop?

Edit: Found it...Band-Maid. These girls are perfect for Super Bowl halftime!

Some more Band Maid

Some of the Superbowl Halftime performances have been lackluster with performers who probably should not have been selected.

I heard today that Justin Beiber is lobbying for next year's Superbowl Halftime show.

Here is a list of all the Superbowl Halftime shows.

Who do you think would be good Superbowl Halftime performers?

Here are just a few suggestions in my personal opinion of acts who have a wide audience appeal, can perform well, and have never been there.

Bon Jovi
Garth Brooks
Keith Urban
Bryan Adams

I was trying to think of some newer performers as well.

Who would you suggest?

You , me and who ever wants to join us from TB! :)
