Who finds black basses boring?

Idk....I kinda like it.

My corvette is black and slick (boring right?)

But my old dean is black transparent and is anything BUT boring. I sometimes call it a mood bass, as it changes appearence from black, to brown, to a purple tint....and even a green tint in the right light. Its awesome.

Overall,I think black basses/guitars are boring...I think it also depends on the bass as well...But for the most part,I agree...By the way ,I've owned a few myself...you know,"In the eye of the beholder"...

I don't know is it due to the fact I own 4 basses and 2 of em are black. The other 2 being white and sunburst. Talk about being generic huh.

I have to respectfully disagree. Love my black bass just as much as my other basses. Only mod I will do to my geddy is putting a perloid pickgaurd on it. Love the black with maple neck and black block inlays!! Looks sexy!!

In my very humble opinion,

Black basses look very cool in daylight or a fully lit room, which is not what you have at a gig.
In club lighting, you can barely see black basses so their interesting shapes are kind of lost on the audience. Exception would be with neon strings and a blacklight, so it looks like you are playing a set of glowy strings hanging in midair.

I'll go for white or pearl white every time because there is no color of stage light that makes them look bad.

Gene Simmons's Punisher stands out pretty good on stage. Then again it could be because of the binding.

I think all-black basses tend to look bland on stage. I also think that the better an instrument looks in normal light, the less likely it will look awesome under stage light. Conversely (sort of) the more jarring and garish a bass looks under normal light, the more distinctive it is likely to look under stage lights. You gotta always remember, stage isn't real life, so you don't dress or prepare for it like real life. Ya gotta lay the colors and style on thick, or you don't make much of an impression.

I have a violet Precision with a blue pearloid pickguard that becomes a living creature under stage lights, because that's its home habitat.

PS,
The color black is actually the absence of any color. All color and light disappear into it since it does not reflect color itself. Black is what to use if you don't want to be seen.

That's pretty. Did all black Aerodynes come with white binding?

Ah yes, I've seen those, they come in several colors, all bound. I wish they were made in a 34", I'd be all over it.

The binding and PG really make it pop.

My 76 fenders in Black. I love them.

Aquired yesterday: (I would have preferred the Blue Burst, but for the price I got it at I can't complain)

I have a couple other basses in different colors, (including a 94 warwick corvette in blue/green, and a gibson LP triumph)
I'm more concerned about how they play/sound as opposed to how they look. My basses are tools, not accessories.
I don't play in any fashion shows...do you?

If it's got a pickguard it's fine. Not a solid white pickguard, but a BWB pickguard or some funky neon color or maybe pearloid or tort usually looks great

Yep, I do.

The folks who come to our shows largely subscribe to the mentality that pop music is just as much a visual medium as a sonic medium, and my bandmates and I deliver with a carefully planned and coordinated stage show. If you think about it, this probably describes a LOT of bands.

Maybe you do it purely for the music and aesthetics aren't as important, and that's fine, I promise I won't criticize your philosophy. Just realize that visual considerations do matter to others.

Another one who absolutely detests black basses or guitars. Feel the same about sunburst.

I have had had two black in my life, a Ric 325 that was stolen and a Gibson SS Thunderbird that is waiting its turn to be repainted a colour that will make it presentable.

I have a black HH Jaguar guitar, but it’s got acres of chrome on it that make it look okay to me.
