Who has cool neighbors?

My nearest neighbors are all within 100 yards, with the very closest ones being maybe 70 feet from my music room and 100 from the fire pit where a lot of picking goes down. I've lived here for around 3 years now, and have run into all of my neighbors at least once. I gave them all my cell phone number so they could call if we ever annoyed them with loud music, and thus far have received zero calls and zero visits from the police. My next-door neighbors even come over to the fire and have a beer and listen to us play now and again.

Across the road and down the hill, there's a house that (I'm almost certain) an out-of-down dope dealer lives in, and I'm also pretty sure one or more lived in my house before me, so I'm pretty sure all of my neighbors are just grateful to have me instead, haha! It's probably worth noting that I never play with drums or anything after around 10:00, so at night whatever I'm playing should be barely audible. None of my neighbors seem to mind all my loud cars/trucks/bikes, either, or the sometimes kinda raucous shindigs I have now and again. It's REAL easy to keep a low profile in my neighborhood, apparently.

Neighbours on both sides are cool, I always play through headphones at home so there are no issues there, but they’re both cool people regardless. A previous neighbour used to sit out when the weather was good and play some serious country-blues on his Dobro, that was really cool.

We've rented a condo for 6 years and never had a problem till recently. I now play with acoustic players and have rehearsed a time or two without problems. New neighbor complains about anything and everything while his cats wake us up at 0300. He is not accommodating about this. I'm letting it go because we just signed a lease to own on a house. It's on a corner lot, haven't met the neighbors yet. Will be doing some outside rehearsals weather permitting. Neighbor next door has a steal your face sticker on his SUV so I'm cautiously optimistic!

My neighbors are cool. At first I was bummed when they said they could hear the rehearsals, but they said they like it and that their dog loves it. We had hoped the distance - about 200 yds - and the dense understory and leaves would block the sound, but when their windows are open they can hear us.

One favorite story comes from years ago my long time drumming partner in rhythm in crime in many bands shared a house in Hyde Park Austin, Texas. We lived next door to a dear older couple that we befriended and would do odd jobs for, changing light bulbs, heavy lifting and such. Anyhoo one night a neighbor from across the street two houses down called the cops when she saw the guitar players car out front. Cop knocks on door and we are in the living room listening to a record, the drummer is sleeping sick. Elderly lady comes over to see why the cop is there, hears that someone has anonymously complained about the noise, she knows it is crabby-poo and proceeds to walk down the street and give her 33 degrees of what for in a loud and clear voice much to the entertainment of several of the other neighbors who had gathered. Even the cop was amused, damn I miss the eighties.

I lived in Hyde Park, late 70's - early 80's. Grandson of the elderly lady next door was on the road crew for the Doobie Bros. Got us tickets and backstage passes for a show in Houston.
We've got great neighbors now, too. Dog whisperer Navy Seal across the street. Within a block of our house, there's a guitar player, bassist, keyboardist and drummer in a band. They're all 12 or 13 and their parents are all cool. Elderly lady next door gives us tickets to the symphony. She calls all the time to have something fixed or put together.

I'm in cow country, so the neighbours are quite far away, but to one side of me, he's got a band that rehearses on Thursdays. They have been rehearsing for 17 years and don't have a full set yet, but they sure have fun. Neighbours on the other side arrive and leave under the cover of darkness, and I never see them. I'm fairly certain they are a husband and wife serial killer team.

My next door neighbour's favourite song is Pink Floyd's Shine on you crazy diamond, she's 89 y.o. (Both her sons played in bands in their younger days.)

A few years ago she was in hospital having a knee replacement and the hospital radio DJ came round the ward asking for requests. He was a little surprised when she requested it but was only too pleased to play it. He had to bring it in from home because the hospital didn't have it in their "Easy Listening" CD library.

Good fences make good neighbors.

For a brief time we rehearsed on the ground level of my house in the suburbs. We never played late, but we were cramming for a gig where the client called us the night before to confirm that we played all 50s songs. We did not play 50s songs, so we had to do some homework and play after dark.

This house had no AC, so the front door was open. In the midst of running through Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place to Go," we noticed an ashen face in the dark pounding on the screen door screaming about the noise.

She. Was. Mad.

So probably she was not a cool neighbor.

And rightfully so. We were dumb.

Before this reflection however, I just walked over and slammed the door on her face.

I was paid back this noise karma when a screamo band moved in across the street from my current residence. They would play until 11:30PM. All I could hear was bass, snare, and toms for hours. So I had to go and be the mad and uncool neighbor that time.

My main band has rehearsal twice a week, generally until 9-10pm no one has ever said a word to me. except, the guy to the left of me, hes a county sheriff's deputy, and he only asked if he could come over with a 12 pack and listen to us.

Downtown New Orleans here, a few blocks from the French Quarter (touristy area with lots of bars and music venues). Coolest area I've ever lived in. More often than not I'll get an audience. Neighbors will often ask me to play outside. My back neighbors own a music studio, lately we've been "collaborating" over the fence. Most musical city I've ever seen.

I live in Austin, TX. I could form a very good band with my neighbors. Several pro or semi-pro neighbors on my street. Our parties are epic.

I got 3 with acres and just made friends with my one out back. They are effing cool. They loved my loud bass. I cannot be happier.

One of my bands did a full gig 3 weeks ago in my front yard for the whole block, so YES (livestreaming as well). We live in the city, not rural by any means, so feel fortunate to have great neighbors.

Neighbors, what’s that? My nearest one is about a half mile away. Last I saw them was maybe ten years ago. They send me a text whenever they are going to be doing any target shooting, you know, safety and all.

I have had some angry neighbours in days gone by, but I've always managed to put their minds at rest. Usually under the floorboards.
