Who has cool neighbors?

I guess I'm not cool. If I can hear a neighbor's music inside my own house with the windows shut they will get a knock on the door, then a letter, then a visit from the cops, then video evidence and a log for future legal action if necessary.

I love music but do not want to hear a neighbor's music inside my own house when I'm trying to watch TV or enjoy peace & quiet. Don't understand how anyone can think it's ok. Sound crossing property lines is more of an invasion/disruption/intrusion than letting your dog poop all over my yard or setting up a picnic with your friends in my yard, etc, etc.

I hate it so much that sometimes I wish I were deaf. I love to play loud at home but only do so in the basement.

Do you guys not mind if the tables are turned? I just don't get it.
I'm the same, and I'm glad you have cops that can do something.
Our upstairs neighbour is cool.

The downstairs one, though, is a chronic stoner who likes to play The Cure (live album) at 70-80 dB in our apartment (has to be deafening down there) followed by Evanescence's big album on repeat. Apart from the occasional burst of Tangerine Dream, that's his playlist. Again, and again, and again, and again...
He's managed to make a pair of goths hate hearing The Cure, for pity's sake.
When we moved in, his wife told us he had cancer and was 3 months from death. That was 8 years ago, and she's a few years in the ground now.
Our hope now is that he'll be careless and pick up the virus that's going around, because it's his lungs that are trashed.
Almost forgot the bonus part: he inevitably gets excited, and starts drumming on the furniture with his hands. Table, walls, whatever.

Funny thing. I asked around our other neighbours a couple of months back about whether he was a problem for them. That seemed to tip people off about where it was coming from (the playlist is a giveaway) and now it's usually somebody else getting into a shouting match at his door. At least that much is a nice change.

Sorry 'bout the rant, but apparently your lance hit my boil :)

My entire neighborhood is very cool. Really nice friendly and polite people who are there at the drop of a hat if you need them, but basically mind their own business the rest of the time. Grew up in the area and already knew most of them when we moved to our current digs back in 2018.

I live behind a barber shop, and below the barber/his girlfriend. Cool people. Our schedules are pretty opposite (he works normal hours, I work nights), so we don't chat super often, but when we do he's cool. I can hear the music/chatter of his shop through my bathroom wall, and everyone seems like they're having a good time in there. He jumped my car once, so that's another plus.

A neighbor showed up at a rehearsal in our keyboard players back yard studio recently. We thought he was pretty cool until he reached into his pocket and pulled out a harmonica.
Yes, they can be a bit of a problem.

About 10 years ago we had a harp player (it was his band actually), he would start about 3 beats into a song, stomp all over the vocals and guitar break, and stop once he realised everyone else had finished.

We were going to sack him after our last scheduled gig (nobody would re-book us) but he packed up quick and left before we had chance. I've only seen him once since.

We generally make friends with neighbors and for the most part they have been supportive of band practices and jams. Of course there is always that sour puss neighbor. We usually rehearse afternoons or early evenings, never past 9 even on a weekend if we are playing that late it's a gig.

One favorite story comes from years ago my long time drumming partner in rhythm in crime in many bands shared a house in Hyde Park Austin, Texas. We lived next door to a dear older couple that we befriended and would do odd jobs for, changing light bulbs, heavy lifting and such. Anyhoo one night a neighbor from across the street two houses down called the cops when she saw the guitar players car out front. Cop knocks on door and we are in the living room listening to a record, the drummer is sleeping sick. Elderly lady comes over to see why the cop is there, hears that someone has anonymously complained about the noise, she knows it is crabby-poo and proceeds to walk down the street and give her 33 degrees of what for in a loud and clear voice much to the entertainment of several of the other neighbors who had gathered. Even the cop was amused, damn I miss the eighties.
