Who has the most Hellishly Obnoxious rig?

I know there is a show your rig thread....but I only want to see the absurd and speculate on what’s possible.

What ungodly beast do you have or have you conceived?

Im hoping someone out there has strung a couple amps together with some of the biggest cabs and speakers...

So far I’m thinking two svt4pros, two 810s, two 15s and two 18s. Sending the right frequencies to the right speakers.

Could have all but the extra 15 and 18 in less than a week if I want to.. just curious if it’s possible the way I want to use it. The extra 18 is the only thing that would be hard to find.

The other guarantee is it will make a garbled hot mess of your tone.

I can't imagine most of that rig being in during a show. What would even be the point? I'll bet you five bucks more than half of that rig is for looks only.....maybe even all of it. Most pro bands are all in-ears anyway. There's most likely a sweet preamp going into the board while the audience is going crazy over the "killer bass rig".

Your tone would likely be a mud pie with that setup. But it would be loud for sure.......a loud hot mess.

Not the least of the reasons for the hot mess is your misconception that 18" speaker cabs are automatically "more bassy" and designed to handle lower frequencies than 15" cabs or even cabs with 10" speakers. They aren't necessarily.

Bass cabs are about physics. Phil Jones Bass makes some rigs that will bass your face off using (I think) 5 1/2" drivers.

unfortunately your assumption is incorrect. The point would be a successful act that has toured and recorded successfully from the 1990s to present with 5 labels. they don't use in ears, and they don't use sweet preamps to the board. And they actually power all the speakers.
All thoroughly explained and shown in the documentary film about the band. Who currently lives on the road on tour. Absolutely renowned for playing at extremely loud volume levels.

I thought I had an obnoxious amp, but it's really more of a toddler compared to that one.

I run a sweet preamp into a Carvin DCM2000 driving 2 monitors and 4 PA mains (2.67 ohms) at around 1800 watts. Takes a bit of DSP and cab simulation to sound right though. Gets loud enough I voluntarily turn down even when playing with a heavy handed drummer.

Currently working on a pair of BFM designs (with upgrades based on experience and peer-reviewed research) to stack, but will probably pull the chassis out of my 400 watt SWR combo, build a head shell for it, and run just one or two of those cabs under construction.

I’m not really looking for loud.... I’m interested in the full spectrum of frequency being represented and in the case of the 18....really feeling it.

I assumed that people use 10s for bass even though Marshall guitarists use 12s for guitar amps because with you have such a low frequency that is difficult to define. Difficult to pronounce and keep tight, but that the 10s do that....but I also hear people complain that they aren’t meant to hit those super lows.... and to avoid it. People who complain about their amp/ speaker sound....being off, pops, fizz...whatever... I’ve had a similar sense when playing 810s as well.

Because frequency reproduction is a speaker characteristic that is entirely independent of speaker diameter

I’m not really looking for loud.... I’m interested in the full spectrum of frequency being represented and in the case of the 18....really feeling it.

My 410 (I don't use the tweeter but it has one), 212 (I don't use the tweeter but it has one) or either of my 15's provide me with the 'full spectrum of frequency being represented' coming from a bass guitar. The possible exception is my 15's are older than when 5's were common, so they don't handle low B or A very well. But that 'full spectrum' is realistically 100hz to 4k. Maybe more, maybe less depending on your setup. My cabs sound much better a/b with a hpf than without, all else equal.

Stand within 20 ft of any of those cabs and you will feel it, no question. I'm concerned what's going on with your amp head or cab that you don't feel it with 'only' an 810. Even poor quality cabs (of which there are many, and many 810's) will throw enough air that you can feel it. That 'feel' is not entirely cab, a lot of it has to do with EQ and the instrument, strings/pups mostly. The amp characteristics and any dirt certainly can help but usually the way they affect it is still mostly EQ.

All things equal, I find the best 'feel it' punch comes from 10's then 12's then 15's. I wouldn't use an 18 nowadays they are too limited to be worth their weight to carry from the van.
