Elvis popularized rock and roll...and even gospel...to the teen pop masses and influenced...well, too many to list. MJ? Do we even need to go there?And Bowie, not pushing the envelope? He pushed it/moved it forward in every way. Musically, visually, sonically, experimentally. Without him, there might have been no NIN as we know it, no Gary Numan as you know it, no post-punk or art-rock as we know them, no gender-bending, all that.
