Who owns the same bass in both 4 and 5 string?

I'll say "sort of", with my Ibanez ATK300 and ATK805.

The 805 is a bit different than a 300 with its smaller body and additional pickup/slightly different preamp, but it's close enough to count, maybe? Actually, I wasn't satisfied with the 5-string basses I had tried before finding the 805; so finding a very similar 5-string to compliment my main 4-string ATK worked out really well for me.

Yep. Both parts basses. Had the 4 first, but switched to 5s shortly after finishing it. Configured the 5 the same way, with P, spit coil Jazz, and 3 way switching. I am playing 5s only now, but the 4 is too special to sell. By the way, the fiver is no longer "wrapped". It took a while after the switch to manage the muting.

Who out there will also buy the same bass as a 4 and a 5 string?

I picked up at Schecter Stilletto Studio in 4 and 5 used. Thought I would sell one and keep the other. Now I want to keep them both!

Anyone else out there look do this and think, "I don't know why I did it but I did and damn happy to do it again!"

I got a Stiletto Elite a few years back, Love it & wanted a 5 string Stilletto but won a Robert De Leo 5 model instead, both are great but went on from gassing for a 5 string stilletto, to other things after I won he de leo on ebay! But I still dream about getting a 5 string stiletto, but they dont make the matching model any more

I got 2 of the same 5 string. I don’t even own a 4 string anymore. I find them boring and inefficient anymore. I actually have a third 5 string but these 2 are both American Pros. My other 5 ver is a Mike Lull.

Not quite... I have identical 5 and 6 string basses!

Soon, I’ll have essentially identical 4 and 5 string basses too, just with color differences. Will be parting ways with one of the basses in the near future, as i don’t need all of them, and am learning what I want in a bass. I’ve gone down the pedal rabbit hole, now bass time! This seems to be a much smaller hole, thankfully. And I’m glad the amp rabbit hole stopped with my first “real” amp!

Yup, absolutely. Both of my 5 strings are Sadowskys, Jazz bass type basses like most of my 4 strings.

With some exceptions, I like to play basses that a familiar. I figure, why fight the bass? Why force yourself to play something that you are not familiar with?

I'll pick up other basses for the express purpose of a different tone or to take my playing in a different level, but I also see the value in playing a familiar instrument.

There was a prototype made but never saw production.

For my conversion I just grabbed an old beat up T40, added a 5th tuner/ replaced the nut and changed the bridge saddles. It's a tight spacing as T40 necks are none to wide.

Not me... I buy my basses one at a time. I prefer Fender Jazz 4 string necks, but don’t like Fender fivers. My fiver is an Ibanez, yet I prefer Fender 4 bangers.

To the earlier “buying the same bass P & J guys”... comment. I have several Ps and Js, even PJ’s. While they seem and look very much the same, they aren’t. Some of us string them differently, flats, rounds, even different gauges for different tunings, some are active, some are passive. They are capable of widely varying sounds while keeping a constant feel.
