Who owns the same bass in both 4 and 5 string?

Yours don’t count because one is left-handed and one is right-handed. How do you switch between them??
It’s kind of like the DC Bizarro world or Evil Spock and Sulu in the mirror universe.
Why would you need a 4?
If I were ever to buy a 5-string, would I be obliged to make jokes like this, or are they just optional?
I think most of those were the ST designation, "Studio" but now that I'm thinking of it, I think I have seen catalog pics of Musician 8 strings maybe....
I've always wanted one of those Musicians. In an 8-string.
I mean ya gain nothing by rolling back. Plus 5 generally makes it seem like you are more capable. Even if you never use the B, other bassists will think you know how to. I am the opposite... I only use the B and mainly just hit open notes on it but people assume I know how to utilize the other strings.If I were ever to buy a 5-string, would I be obliged to make jokes like this, or are they just optional?
^^ This!! ^^^ I think other people do not comprehend the word "same" . I think OP meant same brand, model, color, pick-guard, bridge and neck with only string count as the difference.
For a little while I was using a Lakland 55-02 and 44-02. One for regular BEADG and the other for drop C. I still have the 44-02 but I sold the 55-02. The neck was just too thick for me to play comfortably.
It's too big of a hassle to buy a 4 string version of a 1994 stingray5 .

- By the year of construction it should contain ceramic pickups and a 3 way switch. => EBMM Sterling.
The search for an oil finished, RW neck, factory turtle pickguard, EBMM Sterling is similar to the search for a unicorn with zebra stripes.
FWIW, I love my 5'er and a 4 string version would only be a tribute to it.

I have a '92 SR5 that I love, it was my main bass for years. Mine has alnico pickups and a maple neck.
When I got the Classic 4, I fell in love with the 2-band EQ. So I thought, well obviously a Classic 5 would be just as awesome. But in truth I still prefer my '92 as a 5'er over the Classic 5.
Yes, I have a G&L JB and a JB-5. For several years, I had four and five-string MIA Fender Jazz basses, both red with maple fretboards. I sold the five, but still have the four.
As the OP yeah my original thought was the EXACT same bass but having a chance to see the collection of other members has been really cool. It doesn't matter if it was the exact same one or a similar one. Thoroughly enjoying all the responses and everyone's take on this.
And for the record IMO 5 is not better than 4 nor is 6 better than 5 or 8 better than 6. I have three 4 string fretted, two 5 string fretted, a 5 string fretless, and 6 string fretted. Each has there own sound and feel. Sometimes you just feel like changing things up and it keeps the creative juices going!
...And yes I realize I mentioned 8 is not better than 6 when I don't even own an 8.
