Who owns the same bass in both 4 and 5 string?

Who out there will also buy the same bass as a 4 and a 5 string?

I picked up at Schecter Stilletto Studio in 4 and 5 used. Thought I would sell one and keep the other. Now I want to keep them both!

Anyone else out there look do this and think, "I don't know why I did it but I did and damn happy to do it again!"

I do. No mystery to me, I will always love the simplicity of a 4-string and just being able to thump away on that. But the 5-string adds versatility that I also love.

Some people don't even get 4 and 5-string models of the same bass, they just get another of the same bass (looking at you P and J bass guys).

I do not. Don't see the point in that, really. I prefer my 4s and my 5s to do their own thing and be different from each other.

I did it on purpose.
I like black and maple Fender Ps but wanted the 5 string option.
The 5 was my only bass for about 2.5 years. I just recently got the 4.
Congrats by the way...and keep them both!

No, but since I play only 5s, that’s not surprising.

I don’t see the point of having both 4s and 5s, either similar or not.

But that’s totally okay. I don’t at all disapprove of that, nor worry about it. I just answered an inquiry as it was presented.

I have Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 4 and 5-strings. The 5 has a East J-Retro so they aren't exactly the same.

Also, a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 4 and 5 but they are totally different.

I build my basses. The first 5 stringer I built uses the same pickups (same series - 4 and 5 string versions, naturally) in the same locations, same circuit, same bridge, same tuners, etc.

The do have different finishes, and headstock shapes, so they look different. But the 5’er was specifically built to get the same sounds, but with additional range.

Pretty much. Fender Jazz 4 and Schecter Jazz 5 (35" scale) for me. I love the jazz body and see no reason to have to adjust to something else.

When I bought my G&L L2500, I already had an L2000. Both were cherryburst with maple fretboard. I didn't keep the L2000.

I like variety, so I don't keep duplicates. I might keep cousins:

i wanted a yamaha bb414 in orange when they came out but never got one. then later on when looking used i couldnt find a 4, but found a 5. i then later found a 4. i wont part with the 5 even though i dont like 5 strings lol

Closest for me was I owned 4 and 5 string stingrays at the same time once. But the 5er was an SR5 not the older “classic” body style the 4 string had. Have owned two very similar 5 strings at once on a couple occasions for example; thumb bo5 and thumb nt5. If I did something like that now it would be a fretless 4 string jazz along with my five string jazz or a 6 string dingwall to go with my 5 string Dingwall.
