And the only reason he did it was to queer the deal for the guy who was in line to buy it. Were he first in line, he'd NEVER tell the seller the actual value. It's the old "If I can't have it, you can't either" attitude. And in an example of taking it to an even lower level, he calls some guy he doesn't even know an "a$$hat".

Just had the same feeling. Why would someone do that? And then brag about it to boot.
