The microphone. It can be your best friend or worst enemy. Considering my vocal range is very limited, the mic tends to be on the enemy side of things. But, that isn't what this thread is about. This is about those times where you wish you had a do-over, a rewind, a "oh I wish I didn't say that" moment. We've all heard the jokes about the singer calling out the wrong city -"Hello Cleveland!", as the fans in Cincinatti shake their heads in dismay. Or worse.....

I'll start this off with a good one. There's a part of town that is always knocked as being a meth hub, some really shady people live there, decent crime rate, etc... just like any other major US city. So one night at a gig in this particular Burg I was introducing a cover tune and said "We're gonna give this one a good 'ol college try, something that doesn't happen often here in _________"

Crickets. Silence. Dirty looks. Golf claps. :help:

Luckily the drummer saw the err in my ways and quickly counted off the next tune. Sure I didn't swear at anyone, or throw a beer bottle for that matter - but it's never a good idea to insult the entire community you are playing for.

What is your worst hot mic moment?

A guitarist in one of my former bands wanted his beer, and the server hadn't brought it yet. Between songs, he says "where is that w@#$% with my beer?!"....just close enough to the mic to pick it up. Well, unfortunately for us, that w!@#$ was the bar owner's girlfriend.......

I'm not following what word he was saying. I have a feeling I don't want to know.

The singer and I discussing the finer physical qualities of a waitress who just brought us a round of beer.....that she bought for us.

Any time. If I have a mic, I tend to say stupid things. Bad jokes, mostly.

That's awesome. I've done the foot in mouth thing a few times myself. I prefer the taste of New Balance over Nike, just a personal thing.

When I was younger , the cover band I was in played an AA Meeting /Dance . Things were going quite well. At the start of the next number , I yelled in the mic , "This next song is from my favorite BEER commercial ! " ( Love Train" Coors Light ) . Silence :help:
My brother , the drummer, laughed and mouthed the word, "Idiot" to me as everyone in the room started to slamming coffee and dragging hard on cigarettes . :roflmao:
Funny thing...when we finished that song, the crowd yelled in unison, "PLAY COCAINE !!:woot:

Not so awesome at the time....I felt so bad about it (not the male pig part--but embarrassing her in front of the entire crowd), that I spent the rest of the night avoiding contact with her and feeling the daggers in my back. But that was a long time ago, it's kinda funny now....

First night with the new 3rd guitar player, he was the driving force behind a train wreck opening song, so I whispered to the BL, (next to me), "turn Butch off, he's a catastrophe", but, I whispered right into the BL's hot mic, I was upset, and not paying attention...we did turn him off...he forgave me, by next gig his rhythm was decent, and backing vocals were good.
