Who's trying to lose weight this year??

I am also losing weight for the new year (though I had determined this long before the new year, so it's not a typical "resolution") through the use of diet and HCG. My Wife is a distributor, so that works out well. I won't officially advertise here-- unsolicited-- but if anyone is curious or interested, PM me, and I'll get you full details.

I previously lost 35 pounds through this method, and will lose the remaining 20 pounds or so during the month of January. I do have to say that I have to be more deliberate in my muting of strings (especially the B), since my fingers aren't so sausage-like any more.

Sir, you have my curiosity.

If its the hCG I'm thinking about, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. If its also the one where you have a mega low calorific intake, that'll be what is causing the weightloss.

My recommendation would be to do some independent research on the literature.

Edit - Also seems to be illegal, or questionably legal, in the US.

If its the ... in the US.
(I don't want to quote the whole post)

My daughter is a qualified senior dietician working for the UK NHS (National Health Service) and her take on weight loss is that there are no short cuts. Sensible calorie intake (so this includes alcohol) and a sensible exercise routine over a prolonged period are the key ingredients.

New trendy and usually fast diets, pills, potions and miracle weight loss schemes do not cut any ice with her.

I am sure if there were miracle cures then the NHS would be among the first to use them as it would save them an absolute fortune in medical costs (and 1000s of dietician's salaries), unfortunately nothing has been discovered yet.

I agree.
A friend of mine is constantly going on juice cleanses to lose a few pounds. She eats healthy foods, but does absolutely no excercise.

I'm not trying to lose weight per se. I'm actually at a fairly healthy weight. I am trying to lose fat in the ubiquitous quest to get more toned. I'm not necessarily looking to become really big, but rather get a cut "swimmer's body" with the highly sought after visible abs.

I'm very happy with the results my strenght training seem to be producing for my upper body, but I'm still trying to find a cardio routine that I can live with. I'm not a big fan of high impact and I live in a place where winters suck; so outdoor running/jogging is not very attractive. Plus, I'm not really a "gym person." :hmm:

I've been making changes to my diet. Normally, I would eat maybe one really large meal a day with a snack or two throughout; my lifestyle (i.e., grad student) lends itself to that habit. I always get my money's worth when I hit up a buffet, because it may be the only real meal I eat that day. But I've been trying to eat three to four smaller meals a day to get my metabolism working. Also, I've never been a breakfast eater; I don't get an appettite until I've been awake for about an hour, but I've been making sure that I have something to eat relatively early in my day. It's fairly easy to do right now, since I'm off from school and work; but I'll be going back at the end of the month. Luckily, I only have one more semester of course work, so I think I can relatively manage my new eating habits.

I'm fairly ectomorphic, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Good luck and I absolutely know that feeling! On a busy day, I'll often just eat one meal... lunch and get so caught up in work I'll be in the office until 9:00 or so. By the time I get home at 10, I nibble on something small before going to bed, essentially starving my body for those 10 hours between meals.

Good for you for making that change. I'm hopeful I can keep up that change when my hectic lifestyle starts back up in full. Right now, I'm just working full time.

Starting next Wednesday, MBA Classes start back up in the evening and I travel for work on weekends. If I can continue to eat healthy while traveling and going back to school, I should do OK!

By the day, down 3.5 lbs. since New Years! But these are the easy pounds!

I have dropped about 40 lbs since August. I stopped all meats and dairy from my diet. Not only has the weight come off I sleep better, feel, look better. I am off two medications that I had to be on before due to poor diet and high Cholesterol from animal fats.

It is a hard approach but in my case I saw no other option. Forks over knives got me started but even the eating lifestyle in the film/book is very extreme and hard to stay on foe even me who uses some oils and eats nuts.

I will have to check out Forks Over Knives, I did not realize it was a diet/system. Thanks for sharing that.

We decided to go Vegetarian in Nov. after my daughter had us watch "Food Inc"...that and and just the preview for "Earthlings" was all it took. We still eat dairy, but are trying to cut down. The whole GMO thing is pretty concerning too.

No weight-loss yet (would like to lose 10lbs) but I feel better. I am probably the most reluctant vegetarian there ever could be - but I'm finding it's easier than I thought and it's really forcing me to try new healthy things!

Good Luck everyone!!!

Meh. I weighed 186 lbs this morning. I think I'd look and feel better at about 178, but I've only managed to get down to that weight twice in the last 15 years, and didn't stay there long. Have hit 192 a couple of times, no higher.

So, I'd like to lose some weight, but probably won't, and as long as I don't gain any I'll be happy.

I just came into this thread to see the Jillian Michaels ad at the top.

Question for ya - and I'm being sincere - what are you doing for protein? Looking at my caloric requirements for Insanity, I'm supposed to be eating more protein than carbs and fats 5 times a day. At first I figured my love of legumes would serve well, then I realized that most have more carbs than protein. I love meat, but dang that gets expensive to eat it 5 times a day.

Still figuring everything out...I'm not too carb conscious....so milk/almond milk, greek yogurt etc...and then egg whites and some cheese. Cashews, almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, avocados, tofu, quinoa, pasta as wells as beans/chickpeas-hummus.
I also only average about 1200-1800 kcals/day so it doesn't take much to get there.
I'm finding that kale is a great all-around food. I would not have eaten most of these items in the past...but really like them now. I subscribe to a lot of Veg*n sites on FB and Twitter and find their articles very helpful :)

I'm going to drop 40 pounds. I'm running on 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day right now and am on track with my goal of losing a pound a day. We'll see if I can maintain. I'm doing it by eating less food and tracking calories. I'm still exploring low-calorie foods with good flavor. You have to get used to feeling hungry and light-headed.
