Whose demo vids do you trust the most?

Everyone has a different playing style, so it’s important to know the natural tone of the person who is reviewing. That can help you to develops an informed decision even when it’s not your playing style. I know how all three of those guys will sound on “average”, so I can take that into account when watching a video.

I noticed I was a sucker for pedal demos on warwick and yamaha attitude basses, get the pedals home and they sound nothing like it on my gear. I don't put much stock in demos anymore

Bass Gear Magazine - despite not having sound clips - is the source I trust most for bass and amp reviews. Seems like they are the most thorough and scientific.

When I'm looking for pedal demo/review, all I want to hear is a clean sound and the effected sound - as long as it's a decent recording I don't really mind what bass, amp, playing style, tuning, etc. that I'm listening to. I can get a good enough idea of what something will sound like with my rig after listening to a couple different demos,

Dispite there definitely being "standard" bass rigs, there are still way too many variables in the equation for anyone to find a pedal video with their exact gear and clean tone.

Not to say everyone will have success with my "method", but it's been working well for me.

Cool. I think I've only seen one or two videos where bass effects are put in the mix. These are the guys that do it, but I can't find any specific one for bass right now.

+1 for my good friends at Guitar Chimp - a real shame they stopped doing them when they stopped selling pedals...

Pedals and Effects is great and the original go-to channel for me - no bassist does better with fx than Juan in my humble opinion.

I love Patrick and Excane, I wish they did more fingerstyle demos and Excane would use something more conventional as a bass/rig for his bids but he is very thorough.

Who am I kidding...As long as there isn't any wanky slap garbage happening I appreciate them!

Not bass related at all, but I like the gear and the hosts.

Andy Irvine, DailyFunkClub. Been right on with the Mesa Subways and recent Reverend Mercalli-5 Purchase. That video is fantastic and does a great job of capturing the sound of the passive P & MM pickups on that 5 banger. Also a cool and helpful dude via Instagram if you ask questions there on the tons of stuff he has played thru/owns. *Helps that he plays the style(s) of music I enjoy and play myself, too.

I have in the past purchased other gear based strictly on reviews and was disappointed, so as others have mentioned, I do take them *all* with a grain of salt and YMMV, ensuring they've got a great return policy if I can't test in-store at time of purchase.

There a lot of people whose vids I trust. If they're well-recorded and done with a semi-familiar bass, I think most demos are pretty decent and fairly representative of the stuff they use. I only use demos to put together short lists for possible buys, and I always try to check multiple demos of specific stuff I'm interested in.

I’m pretty much addicted to Anderson’s YouTube channel lately. The quality and presentation style is excellent and the usually show you exactly what you need to know and hear.

Although the recent bass helix demo was a little disappointing. It seemed neither presenter had researched the amp models so they weren’t sure exactly what they were demoing.

I think it needs to be mentioned that when critically listening to bass from an online or computer source then a decent set of headphones or stereo system should be used. Laptop, tablet and some desktop speakers are just not capable of properly reproducing frequencies in the bass range.

Has to be Zach Rizer (@Proton Lenny) for a number of reasons:

Plays a nice bass
Plays aforementioned bass nicely
Combination of fingerstyle and picking when appropriate
Understands and eloquently explains the features of the pedal
Shows usable sublte and usable extreme settings of the pedal
Decent quality audio and video
Gets to the point

Not sure if I mentioned this already but he plays a nice bass and plays it nicely

Other than that, I often find the specific sounds and capabilities of a particular pedal I am researching from unknown Youtubers with around 100 views on the video - and probably playing guitar lol

Occasionally Pedals And Effects but I have to be feeling very zen to stick that out

I watch the Anderton's videos' but they never say anything negative, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Andy Irvine. IMO, everything sounds the same (OK by me, tone is in the fingers, so they say) and I rarely watch the boutique video's anymore as I'll never own one of those. That being said, he does a great job on on tutorials and affordable gear as well and he can tear it up when he want's to. He's not a snob either and will play a Squire or early Japanese knock offs just as readily as any high end bass. I always check in to see what's uploaded. My wife can tell from the kitchen when I'm watching Andy.

I trust Bass The World video's for the same reason. Low or high end gear gets reviewed. If it's good, they tell ya.

Curious to see who people are turning to these days to listen to demos. I have long since abandoned Excane due to his very particular and idiosyncratic tone. I'm starting to feel the same way about Hunter too. I personally find Bassic Gear Reviews the most neutral tone-wise and also the best at giving us the full range of the pedal.

Disclaimer for those who are ultra sensitive about critique; This post should not be construed as trash talking or anything other than a curious inquiry into who people are trusting these days.

I chose Excane just because he's always demoing some really cool stuff most others aren't. But the Bass Gear Review is also another favorite of mine. I like the fact that they mostly use P or J basses too which is nice. Pedals and Effects is a really cool one too. I like how they talk about the pedals and the builders more too. Excane is nice though because not only is he diverse, but there is no talking, just playing and knob fiddling. The only gripe I have with Ex is that he only uses the MTD basses he has. I wish he'd use a P or a J bass every now and then. But overall I still like his demos the most.
