Why all the Duff bashing?

No justification needed here man, I just genuinely wondered as I see a lot of negative comments about duff, his tone, his technique (mainly the fact he's a pick player) and even his alcohol/drug issues which really have no place here, but never any reason for dislike other than he's not pulling off billy sheehan type things every other bar. You're right, it doesn't really matter who likes you, just curious I guess.

Whilst we're on the subject, does anyone have an info on the rumour that duff didn't play on AFD?. I've read it but never been able to find anything about it. Just be interested to know a little more behind either the story or the origins of the rumour???

That's proposterous, haven't you seen all the documentaries? And how else would he be able to perform the songs so tight live? I mean c'mon.. thats ridicolous.

True, and I don't think for a second he didn't play on AFD, yea i have seen all the live dvds (too young first time round!), have all the live albums, saw VR a good few times, I love the guys playing and try to aspire to being that solid and that rock n roll.

Just heard a a rumour i'd like to know more about...thats all

Hehe yaeh I feel the same way man :) This rumour just happens to piss me off :ninja:

funny you post this. i was going to post... what's up with all the duff love? gnr was during my time and i still rock out to some of the old stuff... but i've been surprised since i've been on the board to see the amount of people who seem to be talking about him and his tone and wanting to get his tone and such. i don't think he's bad... but i don't see what's so special. and i've listened to various clips people have put up for his tone. it's nice buy itself but it seems to get lost in the mix. personally, i don't see it. that's not a bash.... he just doesn't speak to me.

From what I heard Slash did all the bass on AFD. Something about Duff having poor timing and stuff.

Slash played a 6 string bass on parts of "Welcome to the Jungle", that's about it... I think the poor timing rumours have more to do with Steven Adler's drumming than Duff.. Listening to the Illusion albums with a tight, technical drummer like Matt Sorum (not bashing Steven whatsoever) shows Duff's timing as well as anything... :hiding:

Actually, Steve Bailey played the bass parts on AFD. I was at a clinic where he told a story about being called into a studio to redo all the bass parts because the band's bass player wasn't cutting it. He was under contract not to mention the band's name, but he said something about "firearms and flowers"...:eyebrow:

Don't get me wrong, I like Duff. His playing has definitely gotten more solid. He does what the song requires. That's good enough for me to say he's ok.
