Why are bass cabinets so expensive?

Wow that's one lb lighter than my Markbass 115! Is it a 4 Ohm cab?
Wait....... in a cabin, jamming with 2 acoustic guitars? A Fender Rumble 40 covers that with room to spare.
Just want a cab? Buy a used Carvin 2x10MBE cab. I bought mine at GC for $110.00 tax included.

Nothing very helpful posted here for a person in Canada except for checking out kijiji! Buying new from Thomann in Germany is usually cheaper than buying from Long & Mcquade even with the exchange rate and shipping...
there's little demand. why put the R&D into creating a product for a very very limited audience that is a small, affordable product that performs like it's small and affordable?
R&D of products isn't cheap for a brand. Product-to-market starts in a huge deficit after the costs without dividends to design these products, market them, and manufacture them. Only when customers start buying them to the anticipated levels does money start to even out, and eventually turn a profit IF the projections were correct.
If it's a limited number of customers, and an affordable product, there's not going to be much profit, so costs must be really cheap to create, market, and manufacture the product. That's hard to do unless you are a Chinese company through and through. So most of the brands you find that are affordable and halfway decent are Chinese brands... not rebadged to famous brands with the associated R&D coming from non-Chinese partners.
So look on the cheap Chinese mail order websites maybe, and cross your fingers. Other than that, try what I used to do:
search on local craigslist and marketplace for bass amps with issues (amp doesn't work any more). get it cheap and buy it for the speaker and cab. rip out the amp, give it away for free to be repaired on CL, and voila you have a cheap smaller cab. prob heavy, but meh.

Hate to venture into treacherous territory but only 2 posts so far have touched upon the fundamental cause of the problem.
How many bass cabinets do you really think people sell? It’s not millions.

My grandma used to tell some story about going to a movie for a nickel and I don’t remember the rest because it’s a ridiculous story because the cost of goods and services angles up. You don’t want to live in a world where it trends down.

Too bad Peavey discontinued the Headliner 112. Bought mine a couple years ago for $200 brand new out the door.
I had an acoustic B410 in classified here for months. You could have got for $200. Of course you would have needed to drive down to the Seattle area to pick it up and you would have to bring cash. Didn't sell and I didn't want to store it at home, so I donated it to a nearby church along with a GK115bpx cab. Bassist there was really happy to get them.

yes, especially the mid-level to higher-end ones seem way over priced for what they are…. Also, as a fellow Canadian , our exchange rate blows right now…..
Two things , did you realize the OP is in Canada ? so buying those is out of the question because shipping would cost more than what they are going for… Also, those cabs are crap!
