Why are old Peaveys so cheap?

I liked this thread better when we were talking about peavey basses.

Yeah, let's get back to beating this dead horse again...

If this were an all Black Fury (painted neck), it would already be mine !

I'm still considering buying this but, I already own 15 USA PEAVEYS ! :bassist:

Slave labour? If I were to choose on that basis I woukn't be able to buy anything. Fender and Gibson use cheap foriegn labour and try googling Fender Cort if you wan't an ethical 'employer' reality check.
Of course it's only the Chinese who have a history of human rights abuses? Yeah right. Tuskagee project. Want more?
I try to buy most things ethically but if two different countries manufacture similar items and I don't like either countries business practices then I certainly won't be paying four times the price for what I can see from experience,, is of equal quality.
I'm fed up with having to counsel my friend's who's employers have sold their busineses to American companies and their jobs have since become unbearable.
I have no problem with American or Chinese people just greedy exploitative corporations. I usually buy second hand to avoid the problem. Not a perfect solution maybe.

I didn't derail this thread. I mereley offered an opinion that old Peavy basses represent 'reasonable value for money' here in the UK. For that I got a load of snide and misinformed comments about my Chinese basses. I may be foolish but I can smell racism.
As I didn't set out to derail this thread I am not going to post another reply in respect to the people who were looking for genuine opinions regarding the OP's question.
That white Peavey looks very nice by the way.

That's what you get when you deal with Americans with a "protectionist" attitude. Close the borders to all immigrants, no more importing of consumable goods... My favorite bass is my Indonesian built LTD, I prefer my Korean PRS over my MIA Strat. But my $50 Peavey Fury V is my best bang for the buck instrument I have.

You got snide comments because of the snide attitude you project. You should jolly well go back to mummsy and ahsk her to lend you a few shillings so you can re-attend the manners classes you missed in finishing school, old boy. Eh, what? Also, while you're at it, have her thow in a few more farthings so you can take classes in spelling, grammar, history and current events. Cheerio!

Screamin' deal!! I may buy it on general principle! Anyone looking for a P-bass would be hard pressed to find a better deal. Assuming of course that the neck isn't roached.

"You guys" - LOL!!! Hey, how's manufacturing guitars in the UK doing??!!

About the same as manufacturing everything else. I have a UK made starter bass and I've been trying to sell it for over a year. Nobody wants it. I'm sure there are some perfectly good UK made instruments around, but this Lindo sure isn't one of them. :p

On the other hand my BXP is about ten years old now and still doing fine. It doesn't even have a chip yet. Just one very small, very faint mark on the pickguard. And it came with that.

I'm possibly off to Chicago in a few months so I'll be taking a look at some basses while I'm there and Peavey will be one of the brands I'll be looking at. How many do you think I can bring back before I'm accused of selling them on by customs?

Smcf or whoever you are.. the Germans laughed at the Russian welding skills until their tanks marched into Berlin. Grammar isn't neccessary to get the message accross. In your case nothing would be adequate because you can't tell history from propaganda and even if I needed someone to give me a lesson in the obvious I wouldn't pay them in farthings. And my mother is dead for your information.
I won't be taking advice on nanners from some onelike you either.
Oh deer this otherwise excellent atab is compromised by the clumsy keyboard. I wunnda who designed the software. Ah ah my tummy hurts.
Keep on rockin in the free world :-)

Has anyone played a Millennium 4 string AND a Fury P? As I understand it, the Fury has a Jazz width neck, which I do not prefer, but if it is thicker, front to back, than a Mill 4, it might be worth my time.

You could be onto something. I've heard that when asked how he'd like the big metal map of Russia held in place on the steel wall of his bunker, Hitler said "Tack it". At that precise moment, von Bock walked into the room, saw the Fuhrer pointing at the map, and the rest is history....

Sorry folks but I had to respond to that...

Peavey are still around, in my opinion of course, because they have consistently offered excellent value for money with reliability and quality over a wide range of products. They don't rely on marketing hype, mojo BS, a glorious past or any kind of connivance.
They have done this without tarnishing their reputation yet employing people in various parts of the world including the dreaded C place as well as in the UK. Their after sales service is excellent.
In the local factory to me they offer generous staff discounts. I have two peavey micro bass amps one American and one Chinese and two Millenium basses. I have never heard of a Peavey amp blowing up during a gig.
Surely these guys deserve more credit than they get? If they can do it why do other companies have to operate so unethically?
Spelling and grammar correction welcome ....:-)

I have a all maple neck US Fury and its wider front to back (thicker) than the neck on my US Milly. I will say the two basses are tonally completely different. You can get a lot of great tones from the Milly, but a good precision sound probably not. If you prefer the precision sound go for a US Fury. Good luck.
