Why aren't 6ers tuned in 3rds?

I played extended range basses. Still have a 6, batts are put and it's waiting for consignment.

I had some injuries that put me on a four string and really a short scale but I can manage a long scale but the neck on a 6 too wide anyway...

I still like a low note below E... so I threw an octaver in the chain. The keyboard has bass pedals so I'm not too concerned.

Not so new, actually, for him.

Hideyo, Paul, and Bert (California Guitar Trio) learned 5ths tuning from Robert many years ago; that is their standard tuning.

Yeah- but he calls it new standard tuning. I guess to identify it's not standard tuning. Doesn't start on E either.

I think playing 3rds might be tough when tuned in 5ths. It's a long reach.
