Why aren't bi-amp heads more common?

Diving into a stereo rig right now. Using a variety of effects you can get wide embracing room filling sounds. Having different dirt pedals and cabs minimizes phasing. I’m using a whammy tuned one step down, just to emulate a actual whammy bar, on one of the sides only and it produces a very natural chorus. Awesome.

My last mini janky rig of bi-amp doom was a Carvin BX 1500 bi-ampable head into an Aguilar GS 112 with tweeter off for the low end and an Eden CX 110 for the top end.

After I got my Mesa WD 800 and SW 115. I stopped with all that foolishness.

(Althought I did try the WD out into the above janky rig. Just to see. Might have to try the 115 with the 110 if I ever get it all in the same room again :))

:)

Bi-amp and stereo are two different things.
Given that it's easy to find elderly ish pro quality gear at cheap prices (clue - they are more or less very heavy) .
Various Trace amps do two channels (not sure this is not dual mono rather than actual stereo) and bass treble crossover outputs. Like my Trace Ah500x. I use it mono bridged but occasionally set it up elsewise and check it's functionality sorry neighbours for a trying 15 minutes per 3 mths. If OP is still watching an Ah600x is probably a more recent option or some top of the range SMX series.
Anyone else will probably have other similar options to mention. If you're in US this era of Trace Elliot is not plentiful as it was bloody expensive even in it's (original) British home market.
Plenty of similar options using clever additional boxes and nice "light'n' little"pre and power amp alternatives I'm sure.

Trace Elliot AH500X is either a dual mono OR Bi-Amp head with built in crossover OR can have a stereo signal feed to the A & B power sections.

The amp will not operate in "stereo" from the Series 6 GP12 preamp nor will the power sections bridge. The power amps are 250 watt @ 4 Ohms each. It will operate dual mono or Bi-Amp from the GP12 preamp.

These are super nice amps.

Are you saying this output is 250w only?
Picture of Rear of mine shortly.

I agree with you these are super nice amplifiers. Mine is used at its various max capabilities exceedingly rarely. I gave it a low power and careful vacuuming on purchase (it had some nylon wig hairs in a lurid colour in there !) and occasionally give it a cautious capacitor look see.
If it gets quirky or overheats at some point i'd drive it sixty or so miles out to the Ashdown factory whilst the service is available. Apparently replacement of some of the big output mosfets might become a problem

It still sounds mighty impressive into a modern lightweight cab and so it should without lapsing into tired cliché. It drives 2 × 8ohm cabs without sress at sensible low home volumes. Elsewhere it is 2 × 250 amps and for ultimate silliness 4 x 8ohm cabs like Mark King or Doug Wimbish. Was Part of an audience that had it's faces and ears melted by a Doug Wimbish promo or clinic back in the day.
Doubt Mark King would want to turn it up quite so loud, he is excellent at fingertyle as well mind you. No disrespect to slap style enthusiasts.
For the record I can't do it (former keen rower/sculler = tired lower back wrists fingers plus training runner on pavements.)
Strictly seated even though I like heavier styles of music which include some to me @60 unattainable virtuosity. Time for some more practice on a Pick plenty of configurations available.

AH500X

A = 250 watts @ 4 Ohms

B = 250 watts @ 4 Ohms

From GP12 preamp BOTH amps get mono full range signal UNLESS setting the adjustable CROSSOVER into the signal path. Then A gets HIGH PASS and then B gets LOW PASS being in BI-AMP mode.

The amps each have a LINE IN that can take a Left/Right stereo signal from an external source.

The amps are not bridgeable to like 500 watts @ 8 Ohms that you could find on say an Eden power amp or similar. Also, the GP12 is not a stereo preamp.

You can get massive results with DUAL MONO with two sets of 4 Ohms total impedance cabinets.

Each cabinet is 300 watts and each cabinet is 8 Ohms.

This amp is AH500

This amp is an AH500X MKV GP11 the one before Series 6

Academic really but I look after it carefully and it gets used.
Occasionally on a farm with an adjacent part Workshop part Dutch Barn arrangement.
Selection of mothers children and other uninterested parties do stuff elsewhere.
Fan Speed 2 from beginning if Amp might start to get hot.

I can't think of any Trace bass amps that had 2 channel preamps, the power amps were often 2 channel and run in dual mono or biamped with crossover.

Mea Culpa, rather than editing my comment.
I meant academic as far as my personal usage is concerned.
I play a single 4 ohm , single 8ohm trace/modern cabinet or two 8 ohm ditto. None of which was a problem driven with 250watts dependent on volume required.
Thank you for correcting my mis-stated original post and careless use of English.
If a person looks at the ohm ratings and connects correctly and uses old stylee 3 pin to 3pin for Trace Cabs. 3 pin to (preferably) Speakon. I picked up some really pretty long ruggedly constructed but flexy speakon to jack from a dying central London studio allegedly their newest and made up three 3 pin to Jack for old times sake.
