Not being able to blend the pups is what keeps me away. I love my jazz bass with the bridge at 100% and the neck at 90-95% - small change makes a big difference

Why aren't Jaguar basses more popular?

Thats what the jag sound like with no battery in! well...all the depth of the neck pickup...but the punch of the bridge, Not so much the tone of the bridge, it's strange, but really nice!
I like and think it was a great idea fender had! And they look killer with covers on! I just miss the independent pickups volume control, it's not nice to have just one or the other or both full on...
I also think it should be made as a pj, not just a jj... Maybe one day i'll have a custom one...
(I'm wondering how would it be a p/mm pickup config...)

I love the Jag and got a great sound out of it at GC. Im just fearful of the hardware and electrical issues I keep reading about.
Whats these electrical issues? i have had mine since i was 18 in september, i'm now 21, and mine has been fine.
I'm confused, are you saying that none of the switch's affect the tone when there's no battery? Because I never use a battery and the only thing it affects is the preamp. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you're saying. Anyway, I totally agree that it sounds awesome in passive mode.
To me it seems simpler to get a lot of different tones than it is with a jazz bass. I don't understand why people think it so difficult. Once you know what the switches do it easy. Like someone said, "it's not rocket science" If it takes you more than a minute to figure out what they do you should probably stick with acoustic instruments.
I got my Jag in 06 for $600 at GC. I bought it the first day I saw/played it. I think I will always have this bass. I couldn't image finding something that would replace it. J and P basses are great but this isn't a J or P. It's something different! Personally I hope that they never get too popular. I like having something that looks and sounds unique.
The people I play with in two different bands both love my Jag and the sound it produces.
What I like:
1. Passive, it sounds like a Fender Jazz Bass.
2. With the Series/Parallel switch, preamp, and passive tone control that works when in preamp mode, you can really dial in a lot of different tones. It can sound sweet and tame, or it can be a real monster. I like the monster.
3. It has the same neck as the Geddy, with the same pickups, plus a preamp and series /parallel for LESS money than a Geddy.
4. Blocks inlaid on the fretboard!
5. MIJ=top quality at a lower price than MIA.
6. Fits perfectly in a Jazz Bass hard case.
7. It looks a little goofy. I'm a little goofy. Perfect match!
I'll admit that I'd like pickup panning instead of the on/off switches, but I play with both PUs at full 95% of the time, anyway.
I guess I don't care if the bass is all that popular. I suspect some people just don't take the Jaguar seriously and think it's a gimmick. They are wrong, but I have to say I never figured I'd own a Jag until I sat down and really tried one, then I had to have it.

I'm thinking of picking up either a Jaguar or a Geddy bass. The Jag is slightly cheaper, but, I could go either way. I've wanted a Geddy for quite some time, but the Jag is starting to catch pretty quickly. To those who've played both are there any big advantages either way playing-wise?
I really like my new Jag bass. I have no neck dive with it,I love all the tones I can get out of it,I got it in 3 tone burst. All around its great. My only problem is the bridge pick up is a little noisy(might replace it). I like how it looks and would rather have the Jag than then a jazz. But that's just me.
I am a new Jag owner of three weeks. The instrument looks great and it sounds really good now that I fixed the preamp buzz for a total of $7.54.
I like having a good looking, very flexible instrument that very few other people own. I can't help it if some people can not see a next step in the evolution of Bass. This instrument is destined to be the ranked with the P and J when the Jag is made in the USA. But for now I am enjoying being a pioneer.
