Why aren't Jaguar basses more popular?

I thought that bass was too complicated for my taste. The few times I played it, I had to dedicate quite some time to get the tone I like from a bass and even then it sounded quite a bit like a Fender P-Bass.. The lack of any kind of blend controls or individual volume controls for the pups is another big downer for this bass. Maybe if it had a DPDT switch instead of a series in/out switch?:hmm:

Thats why I bought my Fender 1970s Jazz Bass..

It's definitely not mainstream by any stretch of the word and doesn't get the pro exposure, but owning one I think their pretty cool for the money. The electronics when set to the active position do buzz alot. It would take someone with time to figure out the best tone, but they do sound like a JBass. Pro's do play them, however, most of the bio's list them as "custom Jags". (someone probably got in there and corrected the electronics. Seeing that I bought mine new and out the door for 335.00 (retailer couldn't move it) it's a keeper, although I do play my T-bird most of the time.

I dunno about that. I've heard punk bands where the bass player used a Jazz and it sounded great. One example is Phil from the Subhumans (UK version, not Canadian) and he always sounds good. Their most recent album (Internal Riot) was recorded using a stock Jazz. Check it out if you get a chance. He always plays one live too. Works well.

I don't see why people are saying it needs less switches? I utilize all of them. I love having the ability to create MANY MANY different sounds that I need. Plus I would rather it NOT sell like crazy. I've seen too many people that own the Jag and not use the bass to its full potential. Just my thoughts I guess.

i owned one for about a year. I liked it, but prefered the tone of my jazz bass. Besides, I almost never used the switches. so i sold it and got something that was different from my jazz, a Thunderbird. I will mention that I had one of the few white ones in the U.S. as I ordered it from Japan. At the time U.S. models were only black and red. Im pleased that I sold it for when I did, just a month before Fender announced expanding the color options in the U.S. to include white. So I got an inflated price. I got lucky.

i dont really know why they arent.the mustang bass isnt very popular either,but i want at least one of both in my collection.i saw the 3ts one at my local guitar center,but for some reason it costed somewhere around $1150,when its original price should be $799.i would have bought it if it was at normal price but,i couldnt.

I have a black one i'm willing to sell if someone wants it?! It's also signed by Andy Rourke from The Smiths.

They are a good bass, Don't use to much power from the battery, Can get any sound you want from it!

But IMO, take the battery out, then it has it's own sound, what's better than ANY of what the switches can do.

So yeah, wanna buy it, send us a message!

:confused: All the switches work in passive mode except the Preamp on/off switch.

Yeah all the switches work..... they need power though, i only found this out 2 days ago, when i snapped a string and picked the jag up (my backup...)

I thought the battery was just for the active side... it's for the active/passive switch AND all the tone/on/off switches.

I came across this when i needed a battery for this tone Bender (or Blender) pedal, a fuzz one...
I took it out of me bass (didn't like the pedal but left the battery in) my sound changed, messed with the switches and nothin happend. it just turns into a bog standerd bass! but with a nice deep tone.

Something seems wrong there. There is no power going to the switches and the preamp is totally switched out of the circuit from what I can tell by the diagram. I'll have to try this when I get home. Wouldn't be the first time I misread a schematic. :D
