Why didn't Gibson and Epi basses catch on?

There were many brit invasion players of the mid-60s using Gibson and Epiphone basses, and sounding great on them too. Check out some Animals recordings, and some John Mayall from that period, among many others.

A little later, Jack Bruce used a Gibson to fantastic effect.

I’m not sure how many contemporary players use them but I saw Samantha
Fish’s bass player sounding fabulous a month or so ago on a Gibson short scale semi-hollow model.

But no, they did not catch on like Fenders. Who knows?

Easy enough to beat neck dive: upper strap button goes at the neck heel joint.
I took it a step further and put the strap across the front of the body over the lower bout. Viola...

Oh I know that now! Didn't back then, but more so was even more skittish about any mods that leave marks. Even "mods" that should've been what the manufacturer did from the absolute start lol

I've left a few marks, figured out that you don't always have to do that.

I think Gibson has several cool basses, I love all the mahogany and fat sounding pickups, but not a lot of people play short scales and Gib leaned very hard into shorties. Thats my view
