Why do cover band always have the corniest names?

the lead guitarist/singer in my current band used to be in a cover band called ordinance 21

If it's the same "Breakfast Club", IIRC, they are out of the Carolinas and actually had a very solid thing going there for a while. Very business like band with the members pulling down very solid salaries. Can't complain about that.
Whats cheesy about Idle Hands? We rehearse in Idle and we all have hands.......

we're in it for fun. The name should show that you are a fun band and not taking this sooooooooooooooo seriously
The cover band I'm in now is UUU. Certainly cheesy!

OK, I play in "Burning Diesel & the Carburetors" (yeah, I know diesels don't have carburetors), and "Stinkbait and the Channel Cats". Both are "Midnight-Mustang-Margaritaville" bar bands. My favorite is for our currently on hiatus swing and easy bop attempt, "The Saltines of Swing" (square crackers trying to play jazz). Decades ago I was in "Jimmy Knight and the Daze" but that was originals. Go figure. And btw my zoot suit and zebra print Chucks get more attention than my awesome musicianship and incredible talent (not to mention my humility). I need to look into that white tuxedo and pink tie and cummerbund thing.
I once endured playing in a (aptly-tittled) cover band called "Richard Cranium and the stiff legs".
Dead Man's Party plays at least one San Diego radio halloween show every year.

There is actually a cover band that played in the Atlanta area quite a bit called the Swinging Richards. I thought that was a clever (not cheesy) name for a band. Then I ran into one recently in Florida called...... the Dickle Picks!
