Why do so many drummers wear Kangol Hats????

Seriously...

The only genre that seems to be immune from those cheesy,
played out pieces of headwear seems to be metal. Does anyone at all have the answer to this? At first I thought it was a mid-life crisis thing for middle aged drummers, but I'm seeing them everywhere. Is it some drummers rite of passage I don't know about?

We call those paperboy, newsboy, or cabbie hats around here. All the roots, Americana, bluegrass, Celtic type bands around here wear those hats but not the rock or country players.

This question pertains to drummers as they seem to be the biggest offenders. It's not really an offense, really. I just want to know if it goes beyond fashion (someone here mentioned the vented variety).

I can't be the only one who sees this and sees it very often. Bass players are exempt because we all know that bass players are a varied, individualistic lot, with high fashion sense and wits to match.

I have my doubts about that. A fellow TB'er didn't really dig my hat... and it is a fedora (trilby, to be exact). Fedoras are supposed to be fashionable among young people these days (though that's not why I use them... I'm actually kind of fashion-oblivious).

Maybe its because drummers are the sweatiest member of the band, and the hat helps keep the sweat from running down their face.

There is a problem when drummers wear a hat though...it makes it harder to figure out if the the stage is level: the only thing we have to rely on is which side of their face their drool is running out of, since the sweat isn't running that way too.:hiding:

For clarity's sake, are you talking about Kangol brand hats or paperboy/newsboy/cabbie hats (the style of hat)?
