Why do so many drummers wear Kangol Hats????

I assume drummers just get sweaty playing since it's more physically demanding. Does the hat look cooler than a headband?

I wear them. I call them "Pappy LaGouch" hats. They keep the sweat out of my eyes, which is I think why drummers probably wear them too. I also don't look as silly in them as I do say a cowboy hat or a Indiana Jones hat. They are dressier than a baseball cap. The nylon knit ones are easy to keep clean too.

I think this thread is trying to blur the kangol hat effect. We all know it reserved for bass players. At least here in Europe it THE stereotype. And it must always be turned around for that jazz fusion tone.

For clarity's sake, are you talking about Kangol brand hats or paperboy/newsboy/cabbie hats (the style of hat)?

I’ve never heard of Kangol before, but I’ve been wearing that style of hat for years. But only in the colder months. In the summertime I get too warm if I wear one, and I start sweating like a drummer.

It's the same deal as with baseball caps: if the brim's pointing to the back, there's no redemption for your fashion sense. And that's what I think of when I hear Kangol hat.

I believe this is the Canadian brimless tuque. Not only does it keep ones head warm, it is also designed to disallow brain dump at any given point in time...

I always thought that was called a Flat Cap. Oh well..what's in a name? T-Bone wore hats for nearly all of his carreer. He was a badass, and his grooves will live forever in the minds of music lovers everywhere.

My first cousins husband is also a bassplayer and wears porkpies, and yes, I torment him mercilessly for it!

I despise them. But in my area, it's always older, larger, white bass players. And they look ridiculous.
