Why do they never get it right? (Epi Casady content)

(this below is off-topic)

I try to figure this out by myself and the only thing I can come up with is: Rossmeisel designed the Coronado series; Fender owns all the possible copyrights. So there should not be problems in reissueing the Coronado.

LOL. Don't overthink it. It was just a factoid, as I originally stated.

Another factoid: Rossmeisl died in 1979.

C'mon guys, reality check. The Casady is not a particularly well built guitar. It's delicate, even by semi standards.

The hardware id definitely not robust. It's adequate, so it works.

The bridges have been known to pull out of the body. And the rotary switches have been known to fail.

Not to mention, it's an ergonomic nightmare. It's not real versitile either.

With all that, one could argue that it's over-priced at what?... $750 street?

For me the Casady has a few things going for it that outweigh the litany of negatives...

It sounds terrific.
It's light weight.
It looks pretty good.

(As always, YMMV, diff strokes, to each his own.)

Pictures of bad bridge and rotary switch? Proof of claims? Make sure you show the pic of you swinging it over your head.

I have had mine a while(years) and it is solid all around. I would not run over it with my truck or let Templar touch it but I am sure it will out live me.

I have seen quite a few beat up EB-2's. I would say they are more fragile and the sound is inconsistent from one to the next. I have played 5 or 6 vintage EB-2's over the years and I always set them down very carefully do to risk of breaking and expense. People Lov'em(EB-2). I really like em but not even for 700-800 bucks but they are never near that price beat to death or otherwise. If you are going to make claims support them.

Want me to take another pic of mine? Hell, I could swing it over my head with no worries, if I was not afraid to break myself in the process.

Must pre apologize if I hurt Your feelings. I must defend myself from your sad attempt at a rebuttal of My criticism of your miss information. Stop misinforming!

Cavet: I got up early to watch the fing Perseid meteor shower and find clouds in central TX in Aug. I need Rain but these high attitude clouds are no good for that just for blocking my vieW.

sorry, I don't want to sound obnoxious but the thread is not "I like or I don't like Silverburst" but rather "to me they could have chosen another more appealing color for a special edition". It's obvious that I personally don't like it, while some others do...

Come on: it's a forum; therefore: small talks, serious talks, opinions, ehm..., uhm..., yes..., no..., maybe..., etc. If you don't talk about anything comes up into your mind, what will the forum live out of?

;)

That is what I was saying but I must of miscommunicated. I will rephrase:
The whole point is the discussion!

What is it: too hot this summer? Easy, man: this is a forum and it lives out of talks talks talks... sometimes serious talks, other times just, say, silly as on this thread!!! Can't you distinguish a "more ironic than serious" thread from something beefier? You are stating the obvious: I will surely not buy a silverburst bass; but I express my free opinion about what I think being a wrong color choice. But no reasons to loose the sleep for both me and you!!!

Relax, ok?! ;)

Dude... I'm in the southern hemisphere. It's winter here. I can't relax, I'm too cold! :(

...bad bridge and rotary switch...

I recall (might be wrong, but I am pretty sure) that for a given period of time the Casady was manufactured by Invalid Link Removed*, as it was the Rivoli reissue, btw; at Peerless they are known for building only and exclusively semiacoustic instruments (jazz hollows or dreadnought etc.) with excellent quality standards.

Then Epi for this bass went another way (don't frankly know which: their own factory somewere in far east?) but I imagine that the quality standard remained pretty much unaltered (?)

*Peerless also makes a beautiful Smoked Bass! Please drool freely:

weighing in at 10lbs per (Invalid Link Removed) It must be a very "SEMI" hollow body I have read the description via peerless and it does not include weight or semi hollow body/solid info,

Avezzano how much does yours weigh?

What about this Peerless Bass Master/Epi JC Clone?

Invalid Link Removed

Ohhhh :bassist: me likey and drooly over the Smoked no matter what it weighs! I would love to hear one/play one.

Thanks for more G.A.S. Avezzano especially when I am starting to down size the herd.

What? Too many basses: NOway. At least my hoarding has some monetary value or so I keep telling myself:smug:

It's my pleasure!

I do not have a Peerless Smoked Bass! Sorry! These below are my only two hollows (for now!).

About the Bass Master you linked above: so I recalled it right! It is definitely not a clone, in the bad sense!!! Peerless made but actually they still make the Casady!!!!

Easy chief, you're coming off like a real jerk. Congarts, you just made my ignore list along with some other goofballs.

I find it interesting that the topic of the finish is dominating this discussion.
I REALLY want to like this bass, but I found the hardware a bit "suspect." If someone can re-assure me that the knobs aren't going to fall off, or that the bridge is NOT simply chrome painted, it would go a long way.

That said, it is a beautiful bass. I'd love to try it with black nylon flats instead of the ghastly strings that are on it. Seems those are the ones Jack uses, well....

Anyway, please chime in on the build quality if you are satisfied.

Thanks, I'm still open to this.....

To be fair, Epi's choices regarding finishes was the specific issue the OP started the thread with (although the title of the thread wouldn't lead one to expect this).

If you do some searching you'll find numerous threads about build and quality-control issues with the JC. I'm one of many who has had zero problems, but some fairly common problems (as others have noted) have been the bridge posts pulling out of the body and loose output jacks -- both easily fixable, fortunately. I bought my (slightly) used here in the TB classifieds, after confirming with the previous owner that he had not had any such problems -- kinda like adding another layer of quality control, and saved a few bucks in the process!

BTW, I was so indifferent about the finish that once I decided to get one, I started following the classifieds with the idea of grabbing the first good deal to come along, irrespective of finish. Wound up with a black ("ebony") one and couldn't be happier.

Templar

Funny how I am the jerk when you took my comments out of context about the build quality of my individual Tobacco Burst Epi JC and applied shortcomings of some individual instruments to all JCs'. I am sorry you feel a need to contraDict other people and make gross generalizations about a decent instrument without supporting your arguments. I specifically stated I could only speak from the example I have at hand.
I feel sorry for your need to harass others by contradicting them and your need to misstate the facts. I truly hope you are not a hater all your life. As far as ignoring me Thanks! I was just trying to clarify the info you claim and I see you cannot. Perhaps less drinking and more toking. Roll a big Fatty and enjoy.

Very cool I like facts and not gross misrepresentation. I can see that perhaps there have been some quality control issues and perhaps even different physical manufactures. Luckily mine is still rock solid. I had originally wanted a black one. As to my eyes the gold did not quite get to the old standard. That very well may of been the specific instruments coming out at that time with poorer QC. I just got lucky and was able to get a Tab Burst in like new condition. I even had a chance to examine a Jack Cassidy Signed and released by THE MAN himself gold top and it just did not do it for ME.

I do hope I have been a help.

Haters will always be...

I see, but only because the finish is (wrongly) considered sort of a secondary factor, while it should not be like that. The thread "generic" title could apply to several other things that simply seem "not logic" to the common mortal guy (mvho: there could be reasons). Talk about Fender, just to pick one? Sure:

- Fender coming out with a fretless bass only years after Jaco popularized the thing on his Jazz (and when they came out it was a... Precision!!!)

- Fender coming out with a five strings only centuries after the first five strings were on the market (Yamaha, Ibanez etc.)

- Fender fivers having 4+1 tuners only after years of stubborn inline only....

- Fender only reissueing the block/bindings after years...

- Fender retiring the Roscoe Beck

- Fender NOT reissueing the Coronado (this is my favorite!)

the first coming to my mind... up with Fender!!!

;)

(Anyone else?)
