my guess is that it may be because their B15, V4B, and SVT sound so good and pretty much defined bass amplification since the early 60's. at least for me, the SVT is still my favorite sounding live bass amp after 45 years of playing bass.

Ampeg does make quality products that sound great and are pretty solid I will give them that. The Ampeg brand has become a staple for many bass players. If I had a nickle for every time I have seen a bass player use a Ampeg SVT and a Ampeg 8x10 setup...well...I would have a whole lotta nickels!

Playing through an Ampeg makes us sheep happy. Makes others wonder why bass players are such a conservative lot. But at the end of the day, great tone wins out.

A Fender Precision with LaBella flatwounds through an Ampeg amp is considered THE sound that "started it all" as they say.

Personally, I've had nothing but bad experiences with Ampeg. Still, Ampeg has a tone that many people recognize and many bassists prefer.

Rest assured that everyone doesn't love Ampeg.

Modern medicine is amazing.

And I've yet to play through an all-tube Ampeg, but the ones I've used were unimpressive to me. I need a larger sample size before I publish my scientific findings.
